Brunch at Herringbone Waikiki

Skiff

I love my gal pals so I always look forward to celebrating Galentine’s with brunch. It was perfect that Herringbone Waikiki recently reopened in the International Market Place and brought back their brunch menu.  Herringbone is one of the prettiest, open air restaurants with fantastic service so I love dining there.

My favorites include the buffalo octopus and the mochi pancakes. The food was delicious and we all had a great time.

Herringbone Waikiki Dinner + Upcoming Stargazing Events at the International Market Place

buffalo octopus, shaved vegetables, black-eyed peas, anchovy aioli

Last night my husband and I enjoyed a media event dinner at Herringbone at the International Market Place that included stargazing! The International Market Place has several Grand Lānai restaurants including Liliha Bakery, Herringbone, Moani Waikiki, STRIPSTEAK Waikiki, Skybox Taphouse, Eating House 1849 by Roy Yamaguchi, and ShoreFyre.

We chose our longtime favorite Herringbone as they recently reopened under management by the Aoki Group. We started off with happy hour oysters, hamachi crudo, and our favorite, the buffalo octopus. We were so lucky to be able to chat with Executive Chef Gary Tamashiro and try his special oyster shooters which are currently off the menu (but be sure to ask for them!). They are very tasty and the highlight of our dinner. For our entrees, my husband tried the ahi poke flat bread which he loved and I had the king salmon served misoyaki style. It was delicious! We indulged in the white truffle whipped potatoes which unfortunately left us zero room for dessert. I still remember how amazing the Japanese souffle yuzu cheesecake was from last month's media event so next time we will manage the meal better!

East and West Coast Oysters on the half-shell

Hamachi crudo, white truffle-yuzu vinaigrette, crispy garlic, micro shiso

Ahi Poke flatbread, truffle, arugula, sweet onion

Big Glory Bay King Salmon misoyaki style, bonito consume, baby bok choy, sweet soy glazed shiitake mushroom

Gorgeous dining room setting

After an amazing dinner at Herringbone, we stopped by Stargazers of Hawaii where Astronomer and owner, Nick Bradley had his telescope set up for guests to view Saturn and the moon! It was spectacular! If this is up your alley, tickets for a special stargazing show are available for December 11 and 24 on the International Market Place events page.

Herringbone Waikiki Reopens Wednesday Under Aoki Group

Seafood Tower

It was great news to hear that Herringbone Waikiki would be reopening Wednesday under new management by the Aoki Group.

Hawaii Mom Blog was fortunate to be invited to the media preview that featured a seafood forward tasting menu by Executive Chef Gary Tamashiro and three select cocktails by Bar Supervisor Justin Lipsky.

My first question of the night was if brunch would be back and I am happy to report your favorite mochi pancakes will be returning this weekend! Also back on the menu is the spicy and delicious Buffalo Octopus. New items to try include the lobster roll, avocado toast, and furikake tater puffs!

Herringbone will be open for dinner and happy hour daily. Brunch will be served on the weekends from 10:30am to 2:30pm.

Haku Lei Brunch at Herringbone Waikiki

I've wanted to go to Herringbone Waikiki's Haku Lei Brunch since it's inception and was finally able to attend one this past weekend.  YAY!  The once a month special event is free for guests having brunch at the restaurant.  Yes, free!

There are lots of beautiful flowers and greens to choose from to make your own haku lei.

Meleana Estes, who also teaches lei making every first Sunday at the International Market Place, came by each table to demonstrate how to make a haku lei.

It was easier than I expected and there is really no wrong way to make one.  All the haku lei at brunch were unique and gorgeous!

My family really enjoyed the fun activity and brunch was delicious as usual.  We hope to attend another Haku Lei Brunch soon!  Be sure to check out Herringbone Waikiki's social media channels for information on the next event.

Dinner at Herringbone Waikiki

It's no secret how much I love Brunch at Herringbone Waikiki, but although I've dined at Herringbone many times for brunch (and cocktails and pupus), it wasn't until this past weekend did I go there for dinner!

Ray Ray Style Fries

Pono Pork Chop

Miso Mushroom "Carbonara"

I couldn't wait to try the Ray Ray Style Fries since I've heard so many people rave about them.  Hand-cut fries were topped with furikake, kobiko, and a slightly spicy rooster sauce - so good!

For my dinner I ordered the Miso Mushroom "Carbonara" since I love mushrooms and miso!  Udon, mushrooms, and snap peas were topped with a soft egg and cheese, and when all mixed together, combined for such an amazing, flavorful dish!  Each bite was full of a nice saltiness from the miso, as well as a bit of heat from chilis.  I wanted to eat the entire dish, but I knew I had to save room for dessert.

Creme Fraiche Panna Cotta

Dark Chocolate Mousse Bar

Both desserts were amazing.  The Creme Fraiche Panna Cotta was recommended by our server, Jay, and I'm so glad he did.  It was not something I would've ordered, but it was fantastic!  Spoonfuls of passion fruit curd, oatmeal crumble, and acai sorbet were just delightful!

But since I'm a chocolate-lover, I really enjoyed the Dark Chocolate Mousse Bar so much more.  This decadent treat was so rich and delish.

Herringbone Waikiki offers a very reasonably-priced kids menu.  The portions are huge!

Kids Sliders
Kids Pepperoni Pizza
Service was excellent, and once again, Herringbone Waikiki treated me to a fabulous meal.

Herringbone Waikiki 2018 Spring Brunch Menu

One of my favorite spots for brunch on the island is Herringbone in the International Market Place.  We recently took family visiting from out of town to this fab restaurant, and tried out items from the Spring 2018 Brunch Menu.

Ray Ray Pancakes

Two-Hand Burger

Farmers' Market Omelet

Grilled Organic Chicken Sandwich

La Jolla Fish Tacos

California Burrito
I was bummed that the Biscuits & Pono Pork Gravy and Chilaquiles are no longer on the brunch menu, but a lot of familiar faves remain, such as the Farmers' Market Omelet, California Burrito, and my all-time favorite Herringbone Brunch menu item - the Ray Ray Pancakes.

I'm not even a pancake fan, but the Ray Ray Pancakes are a MUST-order!  Our out-of-town guests absolutely loved them too, and even though they ordered their own entrees, they ate up all of the pancakes as well!

I ordered the Grilled Organic Chicken Sandwich for my entree, and it was full of flavor.

Two of my kids ordered from the keiki menu.  The kid portions were huge!

Burger

Cheese Pizza

Thank you Herringbone Waikiki for another fab brunch!
