Visit West Virginia: Harpers Ferry National Park

While in West Virginia, we went to Harpers Ferry National Park.

Harpers Ferry National Park is a multi-layered attraction with historical, cultural, and geographical significance.

Historically and culturally, Harpers Ferry National Park "witnessed the first successful application of interchangeable manufacture, the arrival of the first successful American railroad, John Brown's attack on slavery, the largest surrender of Federal troops during the Civil War, and the education of former slaves in one of the earliest integrated schools in the United States," according to the website.

Geographically, there is a point in Harpers Ferry National Park where the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers meet, and you can view three states - Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia!

While at Harpers Ferry National Park, we toured the quaint old buildings, visited The Point, and crossed a foot bridge to experience one of the longest trains we've ever witnessed rumble on by (it was deafening!).

We saw a lot of people at the park hiking and biking, but we had a nice time simply strolling through the park and stepping back in time for a bit.

On a very, very hot day in West Virginia, we made a stop at A la Mode Cafe in Harpers Ferry for some cool treats.

Red Devil Cake
I opted for Turkey Hill Ice Cream Red Devil's Cake, which was one of the more popular flavors that the shop offered.  It was delish!

My kids ended up ordering Slushies!

Blue Raspberry

Visit West Virginia: Royalicious

Our first stop in West Virginia was Royalicious for a light snack.

Everything Bagel

Jumbo Sprinkle Cookie

Cinnamon Stick
Chocolate Roll
Royalicious is known for their bagels, baked goods, and sandwiches.

We opted for some sweet treats and a bagel.  Everything was delicious!

The woman behind the counter was so sweet.  She was so surprised and elated that she had customers all the way from Hawaii - she gave us a bag full of mini cookies!

Visit West Virginia: A Step in Time Bake Shop

When searching online for must-eat foods in West Virginia, Pepperoni Rolls were frequently noted, and one of the places mentioned to get them was A Step in Time Bake Shop

Pepperoni Rolls were originally created for the miners to have something easy and convenient to eat while at work.

Mama Jo's Pepperoni Rolls at A Step in Time Bake Shop are from a family recipe.

The Pepperoni Rolls were larger than, but just as delicious as, I expected them to be.

Delicious homemade bread was just stuffed with pepperoni and oozing cheese.

One can definitely fill you up!

A Step in Time Bake Shop is just over a year old, and although based in an old home, there is seating to accommodate a few people both inside and out.

The shop also sells delectable sweets, like this amazing Rum Roll.

The shop is as charming as its staff - they told us the history of the house and pepperoni rolls, and even gave us a cookie and cupcake to try!

Whether you want to try West Virginia's popular Pepperoni Rolls, have a sweet tooth, or simply want to experience the hospitality of West Virginians, stop on by A Step in Time Bake Shop!
