Visit Ohio: Ritter's Frozen Custard

Ritter's Frozen Custard was a quick stop for a cool, sweet treat while in Dayton.

They have all sorts of treats to choose from - Italian Ice, Frozen Custards, Cones, Sundaes and more.  If savory is what you're craving, they even have burgers and fries!
Mud Sundae

Brownie Sundae

The Mud Sundae consisted of chocolate frozen custard, chocolate syrup, marshmallow creme & Oreo® cookies.  The Brownie included brownies and chocolate syrup.

The Sundaes were the perfect to-go treat to eat in the car.

Visit Ohio: Rusty Bucket Restaurant & Tavern

Rusty Bucket Restaurant & Tavern is an Ohio-based chain with 21 locations in a few states.  We went to the location in Dayton Mall.

Fried Pickles

I almost always order Fried Pickles if it's on the menu. These fried, beer-battered pickle spears hit the spot!

Sirloin Chili
I had a side of Sirloin Chili for my meal, and I absolutely loved it.  I love Cincinnati-style chili - it has a sweetness to it that I really enjoy.
3-Way
You can get Cincinnati chili in a number of ways, and at Rusty Bucket Restaurant & Tavern, they offered a 3-Way, which is basically spaghetti, chili, and cheese.

Bacon Burger

The food was great at this very family-friendly restaurant, and the server was friendly, but it seemed as if she was trying to usher us out quickly (the restaurant was not busy at all).  She just happened to give us the check at one point without saying anything, or asking us if we needed anything else, or even offering dessert!

I asked if she had a dessert menu, since we wanted dessert, and she rambled off three desserts, but I was a bit turned off at that point, so we decided to just pay the check and leave.

Visit Ohio: Culver's

We were famished after arriving in Ohio, and we decided to order from Culver's.  Surprisingly, we had not yet been to Culver's during any of our travels, despite its numerous locations, but we were eager to try!

Crinkle Cut Fries

Onion Rings & Wisconsin Cheese Curds

ButterBurger Cheese

Original Chicken Tenders

The Culver's Bacon Deluxe

The typical fast-food burger fare was tasty, but what I really loved is the frozen custard!
Vanilla Concrete Mixer with Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough & Mini M&M's

Chocolate Concrete Mixer with Brownie Pieces and Chocolate Syrup

Vanilla Concrete Mixer with Eli's Cheesecake Pieces & OREOs

I had a Mini Vanilla Concrete Mixer with Eli's Cheesecake Pieces and OREOs - it was so amazing.  Thick, yet creamy, and I loved the chunks of cheesecakes and OREOs in it.  It was rich and decadent - I couldn't even finish a mini (I for sure saved the leftovers for another night - there was no way I was letting it go to waste!).

I'd definitely go to a Culver's again just for the frozen custard!

Visit Ohio: Bill's Donut Shop

On our first day in Ohio on our recent trip, two people recommended we visit Bill's Donut Shop in Dayton, so we did!

When we got there, the line was about 20 people deep.  I have no idea if that's the norm or not, but it took us about 20 minutes to get to the front of the line.

They have a nice variety of donuts, and we ended up getting:

OREO Cream Filled

Peanut Butter Cream Filled

Glazed Cinnamon Roll

I'm not a huge donut fan, but I just had to try at least one.  I got the Glazed Donut (which I tried immediately) and Glazed Cinnamon Roll Donut (which I ate for breakfast 2 days later).
Glazed Ring
They were both yummy and light, and if I had to choose a favorite, it would be the Glazed Cinnamon Roll.
Chocolate Sprinkle

Nut Persian Donut
A Nut Persian Donut is a cinnamon roll with maple/caramel icing and covered in peanuts.

The shop is open 24 hours, and you can order online or via phone to avoid a potential wait.

Visit Ohio: redBERRY

We usually stay at hotels that offer complimentary breakfast, as we did while in Ohio, but we decided to go out for breakfast / brunch one morning and ended up at redBERRY.

redBERRY Buttermilk Pancakes
The pancakes come in a stack of three, and you can add strawberries or blueberries (or both) for extra.
Chicken & Waffles

Strawberries & Cream Waffles

redBERRY Skillet

I had the redBERRY Skillet, which consisted of eggs, house sausage, spinach, peppers, onions, potatoes, and gravy.  It was a mini feast!

The food was good, and the service was excellent.

Visit redBERRY if you love breakfast / brunch!

Visit Cincinnati: Arcade Legacy: Bar Edition

A really cool place we visited while in Cincinnati was Arcade Legacy: Bar Edition.

We happened to be in Ohio on a Sunday, and from 2pm - 8pm Sundays all ages are welcome to this bar, where you can play on all arcade games and consoles for FREE (pinball machines are $.50 per play) with the purchase of drinks or food!  How awesome is that?

They have all sorts of new and classic games, as well as NES, Wii U, XBOX 360, and more.

As for the food, we ordered:
Buffalo Chicken Nachos
GTS

Chili Dog
The bar food was delish!  The GTS dog is covered with mac and biercheese.

The kids could've played video games until 8pm, but we had a long drive back to Indianapolis.

If you happen to be in Cincinnati in the late afternoon / early evening on a Sunday with the family - take them to Arcade Legacy: Bar Edition!

A fantastic place to take the family while in Cincinnati is Smale Riverfront Park.

It's a gorgeous park along the Ohio River, with scenic views of the Roebling Bridge and Downtown Cincinnati.

The park is huge (two levels), with swings, water features, exercises stations, a playground, carousel, and so much more!

We had so much fun at Smale Riverfront Park!
