Visit Salt Lake City: The Pie Pizzeria

We tend to order pizza often when traveling.  It's easy, convenient, cost-effective, and delicious!  The Pie Pizzeria was one of several pizza shops we ordered from while in Utah.

These "breadsticks on a pan" were so delish!  They were covered in garlicky goodness. 

Mountain of Meat

The Mountain of Meat was piled high with pepperoni, ham salami, sausage, and ground beef.  If you are a meat lover, this pizza is for you!

Chicken Ranch

If you love ranch on your pizza, you'll love the Chicken Ranch, which was also topped with bacon, tomatoes, and onions.

Both pizzas were cheesy with a nice, toothsome crust.  They did not skimp on toppings, and we enjoyed everything we ordered.

Chicken Karaage Curry with Rice

I had the Chicken Karaage, which I thought was good overall.  They gave a nice amount of chicken which was not quite like typical karaage, and it was more like basic, breaded and fried morsels of chicken that were a bit underseasoned.  They did also give a nice amount of curry sauce on the side.

For the prices we paid for the dishes, I thought the portion sizes were generous, especially for the Curry Loco Moco.

Visit Hilo: Tiger Tea Vietnamese

 I love Bò Kho (Vietanmese Beef Stew), so I was eager to try out Tiger Tea Vietnamese.

Bò Kho

It was so good!  The broth was very flavorful and aromatic, and the beef so tender.  You can order it with noodles, rice, or bread, and I chose bread (they gave two loaves!).

Rare Steak Pho

My friend had the Rare Steak Pho, and absolutely loved it.  He said the broth was fantastic. 

As you can guess by its name, Tiger Tea Vietnamese has an extensive tea and drink menu. 

Slush

We ordered Slushes. I had the mango slush, and it was quite sweet, but very refreshing.

We enjoyed the food and will definitely return!

Recently Opened in Mililani - Rice Box Cafe

I've been following Rice Box Cafe for a while on social media, and was always hoping I would get to one of their pop-ups, but I never was able to.   

So I was very excited to learn that they opened up a brick-and-mortar in Mililani, which I couldn't wait to check out!

The Dynamite Ahi Cakes were topped with a chili aioli and negi-kabayaki.

Garlic Ahi

The Garlic Ahi is topped with a roasted garlic aioli and negi-kabayaki.  

Furikake Garlic Chicken

I had the Furikake Garlic Chicken, which had a nice garlic flavor that was not overpowering.  There was a generous sprinkling of furikake which gave it lots of umami.  I really enjoyed the chicken!

Each plate was loaded, with two scoops of rice, pickled cucumbers, and edamame.

I definitely want to try the Chicken Katsu next time, which is topped with a tsukemono aioli.  In fact, there is so much I want to try from the menu!

Sam's Delicatessen

When the hubby lived in Nuuanu, we used to order take-out from Sam's Delicatessen pretty often since it was right down the street from his condo. It's been a few years since we've ordered food from here but the food is still the same and highly recognizable. By recognizable, I am referring to their mochiko chicken, that a few people had identified as being from Sam's Delicatessen when I posted a picture of it on social media.

I ordered a handful of plates and side orders for a night in with a few friends. The side orders of mandoo and fried chicken wings are perfect for sharing.  The mini plate meat jun is more than enough for the average appetite. The tofu katsu is a must-try - crispy on the outside, soft silky tofu on the inside. I can't think of any other place that makes tofu katsu like this.  The mochiko chicken is perfect for the little ones who like bite-sized pieces of chicken.

Visit Hilo: The Booch Bar

I recently picked up lunch from The Booch Bar, which took over the spot of Conscious Culture Cafe.  The menu is somewhat similar, with a few of the same menu items (and even a Conscious Culture Burger).

The food was good, but service could've been much better.  I was put on hold for over ten minutes when placing my ordering via phone, and it took almost that long for an employee to acknowledge me while I was standing at the counter (I was the sole person), waiting to be helped.

DB Grill Family Pack

DB Grill offers take-out via its sister restaurant, Mad Bene, and I conveniently ordered a Family Pack online.

The Family Pack comes with a lot of DB faves, and you can also upgrade from regular rice to Duck Fat Fried Rice, like I did (it's a must at DB Grill!).

It's been a long time since I've been to Young's Kal Bee.  They are known for their Meat Jun and Chicken Katsu, and it's still a favorite!

Get combos if you can't decide on just one item, but definitely try the Meat Jun and / or Chicken Katsu.  They are both very flavorful.
