Visit Anchorage: New Sagaya

We went to check out New Sagaya, a grocery store that specializes in Asian foods, for omiyage.

New Sagaya reminded me of a Don Quijote or Marukai.

We didn't find too much omiyage, but if you're in need for Asian snacks or ingredients, New Sagaya is the place to go.

At New Sagaya, you'll also find lots of fresh seafood, a bakery, deli, and more.

We even found some local Hawaii products!
Although we didn't find as much omiyage as we hoped for, we did leave with some made-in-Alaska gifts, as well as some snacks!

Visit Anchorage: The Ulu Factory

Unlike the ʻulu that we are familiar with in Hawaii, the ulu that The Ulu Factory sells is actually a type of knife that the natives in Alaska created from rocks, and eventually they were made with steel.

It is still commonly used today around the world.

An employee can demo it for you, and answer any questions you may have (one common question was how to care for it).

We did not buy one since we are a carry-on only family and I'm sure this would not have passed security.

Even if you're not interested in buying an ulu, the factory has a nice selection of Alaskan-made products to buy as souvenirs or gifts!

The Vintage Hawaii

I feel like Wahiawa is an epicenter of thrifted & vintage finds, with a number of amazing shops & even garage sales selling antiques, memorabilia, retro furniture, and more.

We stopped at The Vintage Hawaii, and we were waxing nostalgic about a lot of what we saw there — dishes, sewing machines, and a rice dispenser our parents / grandparents had.

The shop has remodeled (photos taken before the remodel).

It's a great place to check out for fun and unique finds!

Green & Fit Mama Superfood Bars

I finally got to try some Green & Fit Mama Superfood Bars!

I picked up a variety at the Mililani Farmers Market.

Each bar is packed with healthy, nutritious ingredients, and they taste yummy!  They are made from scratch, and gluten-, grain-, soy-, peanut-, and dairy-free!

Vanilla Mango

Activated Charcoal

Cacao

Blue Spirulina

What I think is interesting about the bars is that you eat them frozen (they are not hard to bite into) - talk about the perfect summer treat!  My kids loved them too!

Trash from the Past Collectors Cottage

Stepping into Trash from the Past Collectors Cottage was such a treat.

(I found out about them thanks to @imjessburner's post).

It was a walk down memory lane that got me reminiscing about different people, places, and moments in my life.

We talked story with one of the owners (a fellow PC grad), and learned how they converted a house to become a home to an impressive collection of memorabilia, antiques, vintage clothing, old books, and more.

Every time I went into a room, I walked out with more stuff to buy.

Just perusing the items was a lot of fun too — it was like being in a museum.

Go check them out and see what kinds of treasures you'll find!

Visit Anchorage: Summit Spice & Tea Co.

On our last day in Alaska, we went to Summit Spice & Tea Company to get some omiyage.

Not only do they have an amazing selections of spices and teas, but their selection of Alaskan-made goods is quite impressive.

Not only did I buy teas, but I also bought cookies, chocolates, smoked salmon, tin fish, baking mixes, and more - all made in Alaska.

They also have a curated selection of non-Alaskan made goods.

Summit Spice & Tea Co. was the best spot to shop for omiyage!

One2buy

After dinner in Pearl Kai, we went over to One2buy to check out what they had.
I didn't expect to buy as much as I did, but I got all sorts of snacks - different flavors of Cheetos, coriander Doritos (I love cilantro), bamboo Lay's, and more.

I also bought some of the Strawberry Milkshake Pepsi for the kids to try.

I do wish they had ice cream!

The prices are very reasonable, so it won't break the bank to try all kinds of interesting flavors of snacks.
