Splash Bar at the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani

 While staying at the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani, we enjoyed a delicious lunch at the hotel's poolside restaurant Splash Bar. A friend of a friend is the Chef here, and I had heard that the garlic furikake chicken wings were really good, so of course we had to try it while staying at the hotel. 

At first bite, we were in love with these chicken wings! They were hot, juicy, and seasoned perfectly with sprinklings of garlic and furikake. I was trying not to eat more than one, because I was supposed to run a 13 mile running race the next day and did not want to upset my stomach the day before, but these wings were addicting, and I could have finished the entire plate if it weren't for the upcoming race. The wings were served with a dipping sauce, but I did not even bother trying the sauce, because the wings were delicious on its own.

One of my sons ordered a hamburger, and he said it was one of the best burgers he's ever eaten! Before I realized it, the burger was completely gone from the plate (and in his tummy!).  

The hubby ordered the fish tacos. He said they were good, but had a slight kick to them, so I didn't try them at all (again, because I did not want to upset my stomach).  The fish sure looked fresh.

So this is a hotel in the heart of Waikiki, and the prices are a reflection of that. Honestly, I almost fell over when I received the bill.  But I would definitely come back for the garlic furikake chicken wings, and I'm sure my son would order the burger again!

A Family Staycation at Sheraton Princess Kaiulani

Nearly three years ago, our family staycationed at the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani hotel for the first time.

The 1000-room hotel in the heart of Waikiki is steeped in history, yet provides modern conveniences, and a variety of services and amenities.

Over the Easter weekend, we were fortunate to have been invited back for a quick one-night stay.

Upon check-in, we were greeted with lei, and kids received a fun coloring book.

We stayed in a 2-bedroom suite, which had a large living and dining area, a full kitchen, and two bathrooms.

Although the suite was quite dated, I enjoyed the spaciousness and coziness.

Don the soft robe and slippers and it's easy to unwind!

The suite was also equipped with three televisions, a Keurig coffee maker, and even a washer and dryer!

The large lanai and the pretty views were a huge plus as well.

The kids loved the pool, and I loved that bottled water and fresh fruit were offered to guests.

Get there early to snag a seat under the umbrella, or rent one of the two cabanas, because it can get quite hot.

If you prefer the beach, you're in luck, because the beach is just across the street!

When hunger strikes, you can simply order room service, head down to Splash Bar (open for lunch and dinner), or indulge in the buffets at Pikake Terrace (open for breakfast and dinner).

We were fortunate to dine at Pikake Terrace for both dinner and Easter brunch, and we definitely got our fill of delicious Italian eats at dinner, as well as hearty faves (including a Rainbow Mimosa Bar!) during brunch.  You can read about the dinner here, and the Easter brunch here (note - Pikake Terrace will have a fabulous brunch for Mother's day.  You can find out what's on the menu and get more information here).

Pikake Terrace Dinner Buffet at Sheraton Princess Kaiulani

If you love Italian food, make your reservations for the La Costa Italiana dinner buffet at Pikake Terrace at Sheraton Princess Kaiulani.

The new buffet features a variety of Italian eats, along with local favorites. 

You'll find menu items such as Caprese Salad, Charcuterie & Cheese, Chicken Marsala, Risotto, Pasta, Tira Misu, and Panna Cotta, alongside Hawaiian Sweet Rolls, New Zealand Mussels, Prime Rib, Manila clams, Snow Crab Legs (Saturday nights only), and a nice selection of desserts (including an ice cream station!). 

We indulged in so much food! My personal faves included simple, yet satisfying dishes - Charcuterie & Cheese, Pasta al Forno, Grilled Vegetables, and Focaccia. And of course - (no surprise here) - the desserts, especially the Bread Pudding.

Members of my family loved the Mussels, Crab Legs, and Steamed Local Fish, and the hands-down kid-fave was the ice cream station (I admit - I loved it too!).

The lovely Pikake Terrace outdoor dining area is complemented with nightly live entertainment.

Whether you want lighter fare or something heartier, love veggies or love meat, or simply want a bounty of options to satisfy whatever craving strikes, you'll find plenty to choose from at the La Costa Italiana dinner buffet at Pikake Terrace at Sheraton Princess Kaiulani.

The dinner buffet is 5:30pm - 9:00pm daily. Current prices are $34.95 per adult / $17.50 per child. And great news for kama`aina - just show a valid ID to get 25% off!

Te Moana Nui - Tales of the Pacific Showing Three Nights a Week at Sheraton Princess Kaiulani

Three nights a week at the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani, guests are transported to tropical islands through the song and dance of Te Moana Nui - Tales of the Pacific.

There are three package options to choose from - Deluxe Dinner & Show, Standard Dinner & Show, and Cocktail & Show.

Guests who opt for one of the two dinner shows dine at the Pikake Terrace's dinner buffet, which has a bounty of options, such as crab legs, sushi, prime rib, and so much more!

An hour prior to the show starting, guests can participate in cultural activities.

My kids had fun doing the Kapa activity, and were a bit apprehensive about the wristlet one in fear of poking themselves with the long needle.  They decided to forego the tattoos, so we made our way into the Ainahau showroom.  We were ushered into our seats in the front row, where we sipped on drinks while musicians and dancers performed until the Te Moana Nui Show started.

A tribute to Princess Kaiulani was made.  Her story is both tragic and inspirational.

Soon the Te Moana Nui (the vast ocean) show started.  Song and dance reflected the cultures of various islands throughout the pacific, such as Samoa, Tahiti, Tonga, Aotearoa, Hawaii, and French Polynesia.

Colorful costumes and graceful dances entranced the audience, while the more lively numbers full of chants, stomps, and slaps energized the crowd.

During the exciting fireknife dance performance, a screen is pulled across the stage to protect the audience. Being so close to the stage, we could feel the heat from the fire!

Towards the end of the show, guests are plucked from the audience to show off their dance moves.  It was hilarious!

All of the cast members returned for the finale. concluding an epic show.

After the show, guests could take photos with the dancers.

Te Moana Nui is a great show for both kama`aina and visitors. Along with the special effects, props, and large video screens, the dancers and musicians did a fantastic job in weaving stories of love, navigation, and family through vibrant costumes, beautiful songs, and intricate dances.  

Little ones may get a little scared during the Aotearoa Haka performance, as the dancers are very loud and their facial expressions look menacing at times.  Overall, however, my kids enjoyed the energetic dances, especially the fireknife dancing.

Te Moana Nui is an entertaining show for all ages, and the performances are sure to engage and thrill the audience!
