New Favorite Restaurant: Threadfin Bistro

Lobster Noodles

It was kismet that when Hawaii Mom Blogger Nat wanted to celebrate her 50th birthday at Threadfin Bistro, we were invited for a media tasting. Located in Kilohana Square in Kapahulu, Threadfin Bistro is an intimate restaurant that serves wine-friendly global-focused dishes from Chef Jason Kiyota, who formerly operated a restaurant in Kailua called The Food Company Café.

At Threadfin Bistro, guests will have the option of an a la carte menu and an affordable three-course prix fixe for under $80 per person. The August menu is priced at $68 per person. Our party of four shared the Lobster Noodles which turned out to be my favorite dish. For my options from the prix fixe menu, I chose the Hamachi and upgraded to the Mediterranean Spiced Washgyu Steak. The hamachi with the pickled watermelon was so refreshing and generous in portion. The steak was nice as well and I enjoyed the onion jam. We finished with the chocolate torte which was perfection. We had such an amazing meal and the ambience was just my speed - lively, but in an intimate setting. Service was top- notch.

Hamachi, Pickled Watermelon, Cotija, Green Herbs

Charred Peach, Lemon Goat Cheese, Local Greens, Spiced Honey, Roaster Pepper

Mediterranean Spiced Washugyu Steak, Cabernet Onion Jam, Ras-El-Hanout Cream

Prawns - Off Menu Special

Fresh Day Boat Catch (Kanpachi) Basil Corn Buerre Monte, Tomato

Chocolate Torte, White Balsamic Cherries, Kampot Pepper

Nice warm vibe.

Thank you Threadfin Bistro and Chef Jason Kiyota!
Happy Birthday Nat!

The bistro is also gluten allergy friendly, so just be sure to let them know. They are currently BYOB, but offer a limited selection of wines by the glass as they are preparing the launch of their formal wine program. They are open for dinner Thursday through Saturday from 5:30pm with last seating at 8:30pm. My new favorite restaurant for sure and I would recommend to you to check it out!

Mauka-Makai
or
Chili Glazed Fresh Island Fish (Photo credit Alan Wong's Honolulu)

Dessert is a Lilikoi Bread Pudding

I opted to order off the menu.
Side by Side Local Butter Tasting
The Side by Side Local Butter Tasting included samples of butter from Naked Cow Dairy Butter in Waianae, imported butter from Los Angeles, and Hula Cow, Lalamilo Farms in Waimea.

My favorite was the Naked Cow Dairy.
"Soup and Sandwich"

I LOVE the "Soup and Sandwich" - an elevated twist on a classic comfort food pairing.  The Grilled Foie Gras, Kalua Pig, and Mozzarella Cheese Sandwich paired with a Chilled Tomato Soup was simply amazing.

Nori Wrapped Tempura Ahi
The Nori Wrapped Tempura Ahi is a popular item at Alan Wong's.  Delicate pieces of ahi were enveloped in a tempura batter and served with a delicious soy mustard sauce.

Seared Day Boat Scallops Risotto
I love scallops, and I love risotto, so this was a no-brainer for me to order.

Perfectly cooked scallops sat atop a bed of risotto with truffle dried scallops, ham, shrimp, and Hamakua mushrooms.

Waialua Chocolate "Crunch Bars"

The Waialua Chocolate "Crunch Bars" are a chocolate-lover's dream!  Milk Chocolate Macadamia Nut Crunch and Bittersweet Chocolate Mousse combine for a decadent treat.

Whether you're celebrating something special, or simply want delicious, thoughtful food, Alan Wong's Honolulu does not disappoint!

Prix Fixe Lunch at Senia

A couple of months ago Nat and I went to Senia for the first time to celebrate her and Nadia's birthdays (and Hawaii Mom Blog's Blogiversary!).  We were so impressed, that we knew we had to return for the Prix Fixe Lunch menu - 3 courses for just $35!

"Caesar" Salad

Beef Tartare
Ahi Burger

Porchetta Sandwich

Brown Butter Mochi

Senia Cookie

Genmai Ice Cream
For my first course I chose the "Caesar" Salad, which was quite a generous portion! Lettuce leaves were filled with Parmesan, Anchovies, and Garlic Croutons. Nat chose the Beef Tartare and loved it.  Beef was wrapped in a Bric Pastry and the presentation was just gorgeous!

The Porchetta Sandwich was absolutely delish.  A lovely Calabrian Chili Aioli nicely complemented the succulent porchetta.

Nat really enjoyed the Ahi Burger.

There were two options for dessert - Brown Butter Mochi and Senia Cookie.  Since I'm not a huge mochi fan, dessert was an easy choice for me.  The Senia Cookie was one of the best cookies I've ever eaten!  Peanut Butter, Valrhona Chocolate, and Toffee were the stars in this amazing cookie.   I also added on a scoop of yummy Genmai Ice Cream!  The Mochi was really good too, but the cookie was SO good, that Nat ended up buying one to go!

Lunch was fantastic, and the service was fantastic too.

I look forward to dining at Senia again!
