Miro Kaimuki

I still consider Miro Kaimuki to be one of my most favorite restaurants on Oahu. I have enjoyed every single meal that I've had here - the food is always amazing and the service is always impeccable.  My friend who shares the same birthday month as I had never been here before, so we decided to treat ourselves to a nice dinner for our birthdays.

We both started our celebratory meal with zero proof drinks - so refreshing!

My friend was excited to try the ahi brioche, and she loved it!

Here's what was included in the Prix Fixe menu for the month (September):

Kajiki

Housemade sourdough

Beet

Hiramasa

Beef Cheek

Sweet Potato

These little chocolate pyramids were not part of the Prix Fixe menu, but provided by the house for our birthdays.  This dining experience was incredible as always, and I can't wait to come back again!

Miro Kaimuki January 2024

When people ask me for recommendations on where to go for a good adult dinner, where price is not a factor, the first place I will mention is Miro Kaimuki.  Miro is known to have one of the best tasting menus on Oahu. The five-course prix fixe menu changes monthly, so it never gets old.

One of my longtime friends turned 50, and I wanted to take her out to a nice dinner. She had never been here before, so I was excited to introduce her to one of Oahu's best restaurants.

We started with the ahi brioche toast, which an add-on the set menu.

Now on to the 5-course prix fixe menu for January 2024:

nairagi. ceviche. aji amarillo.

agnolotti. mushroom. cherry.

scallop. yuzu bearnaise. sunchoke.

beef cheek. smoked soy. sudachi.

orange. jasmine. honey.

complimentary cream puff for the birthday girl

Both the food and service were outstanding, as always. Every dish was prepared and presented with attention and care. It was the perfect place to celebrate this special occasion, and I hope when I turn 50, someone will take me here for my birthday!

Reservations are required and can be made on their website. Note - a credit card is required to book a reservation (you won't be charged unless you cancel after the deadline for free cancellation has passed).

Miro Kaimuki

Since we don't go out on date nights very often, so when we do, it's usually at a restaurant we have always wanted to try but never could because of the kids (i.e. no keiki menu).  Miro Kaimuki has always been on my "to-try" list for several reasons - several friends on social media dine here often, and I am a fan of Chris Kajioka's restaurants.

Miro Kaimuki features a five course Prix Fixe menu (with optional wine pairing) that changes every month.  In addition to the prix fix menu, the restaurant offers several courses that you can add to your experience.

Although we declined the wine pairing, we did start off our meal with a glass of wine to celebrate our night out sans kids!

I was so excited when our server informed us at the ahi brioche was available as an add-on. It is one of Chris Kajioka's specialties, and if you ever get the opporunity to dine at Miro, you must order this!

First course: little gem. chickpea. beet. All great meals start off with a salad, and this one was heavenly.

Second Course: potato, horseradish, trout roe. I was nervous about this dish as I normally pass on horseradish or trout roe (fish eggs), but this was executed beautifully!

Add-on - pasta with crab meat - sorry, I can't give you a better description of this dish because it's not listed on the menu, but I'll just say that it was delicious!

As soon as this plate of escargot was delivered to our table, we told the server we did not add this to our meal. Our server told us it was compliments of the house. Wow! Thank you Chef Kajioka and Co.!  I don't know what I enjoyed more - the escargot, or the sourdough bread (which they source from The Breadshop) dunked in the garlic butter sauce!

And since we loved the bread so much, we added the sourdough, salted butter, za'atar to our meal. There is nothing more satisfying than a slice of warm, pillowy soft loaf of sourdough bread with salted butter!

Third Course: big glory bay salmon, pea, ramps, lentil. We asked our server where big glory bay was, and although he admitted he did not know off the top of his head where big glory bay was, he actually went and looked it up for us! It's located in New Zealand.  This salmon was very tender and buttery.

Fourth Course: flank steak, radish, charred onion (served with a ponzu sauce). I'm not a fan of steak, but this steak won me over for its tenderness and doneness.

Fifth Course: local citrus, buttermilk whey. bayleaf. A not-too-sweet and not-too-heavy ending to our amazing meal.

This was one of those dining experiences that the hubby and I will remember for a long time. It wasn't just the food itself that made this meal amzing - it was everything about the restaurant, from the decorations, design, ambiance, professionalism of the staff, tableware and glasses, and of course, the food. You can tell there was thought put into every detail.  I am already thinking about when to make another reservation at Miro.

Brunch at Miro Kaimuki

Croque madame.

I finally got to have brunch at Miro Kaimuki (*happy dance*) this past weekend. It was also my first time dining at the restaurant. After I provided my address, we were seated at a booth in the back. The restaurant was not crowded at all and the way they spaced out diners made me feel secure even though we were seated inside.

The Brunch prix fixe is $30 per person with three courses - you have your choice for the entree.  The first course was a very delicious everything onion scone served with a smoked salmon spread. We gobbled them up and totally wished we had more.

Everything onion scone with smoked salmon spread.

For the second course, I ordered the short rib hash benedict and my son ordered the croque madame. Both dishes were excellent and we enjoyed them.  We were both full, but we always have room for dessert so we had no problem finishing the third course - a passion fruit citrus bar.

It was a fantastic dining experience and I will definitely return for more brunch! You can easily make a reservation on resy.

Miro Bento from Miro Kaimuki

As Chris Kajioka noted on his Instagram post, it's "not the food we do at Miro but the food we like to eat."

Indeed it is! And there is something magical about eating a meal out of a white cardboard box.  Only someone from Hawaii would understand this.

Chris Kajioka does it again with this $14 "Miro Bento" which consists of 12 items commonly found at okazuyas: furikake musubi, potato salad, yakisoba, beef cheek curry croquette, pipikaula, ahi patty ginger scallion, hot dog, Japanese egg, salted cabbage, lemon pepper mochiko chicken, shoyu pork belly, and butter mochi.  If you're like me and like to get a taste of many items, instead of a pile of two or three items, this bento is for you.

Pick-up times are from 12-5 pm Wednesdays - Saturdays, and you must pre-order at least one day in advance of your desired pick up date.

The Miro Bento box is just one of many items available on the take-out menu at Miro Kaimuki.  I also picked up a bag of Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip cookies which was the perfect way to end my meal!

Miro at Home

Last month I had plans to go to Miro Kaimuki.  Of course, it didn't happen, since the state had to shut down because of the pandemic.  Even though dining in is still not allowed, I was able to pick up a meal from Miro, as part of their Miro at Home series.

Each week they offer a fabulous meal with everything prepped, and simple reheating instructions are included.
For the day I ordered, the meal included Hot smoked salmon with pickled fennel chimmichuri, hot crab kale dip, baby carrots, twice baked potato, Miro bread, and cheesecake.
The reheating instructions were simple to follow, and everything was packaged and color-coded so there was no way you could mess up!
