Seven Brothers

I first went to Seven Brothers in Laie nearly 7 1/2 years ago, and I've been a fan ever since.

I had to be in Laie for an event recently, and I didn't hesitate about where to go for dinner!

Seven Brothers is known for their burgers, but since I don't eat a lot of beef, I went with the Grilled Cheese.

I love how the bun is reversed and toasted!

Crazy Fries
The Crazy Fries is a must, with grilled onions, cheese, and house sauce.

The food did not disappoint! Seven Brothers also offers salads and seafood plates if burgers are not your thing.

Seven Brothers

The hubby has been wanting to try Seven Brothers for a while now, yet we could never get ourselves to drive out to Laie just to try their burgers.  But recently, we were in the area for a service project at Gunstock Ranch, so we headed to Seven Brothers in Laie Shopping Center afterwards for lunch.

We decided to split the Paniolo and made it a combo, so that we could get the fries and drink.

Of course we had to stack the onion rings in the burger 'for the gram', but in reality, we ate the onion rings on the side because it was just too big of a burger with the onion rings in it.

The burger itself was delicious! I regretted not ordering my own burger. The fries were unusual, but good - thin slices of real potatoes, deep fried and seasoned.

We ordered plain hamburgers for the littles, and they ate it just as fast as us.

Order ahead (for any of their three locations) on their website or app!

Seven Brothers Laie

Ever since trying the fries at Seven Brothers in Laie, I've been wanting to go back (yes, they're that good!).

Finally, just over a year after our first visit, I had a chance to indulge in the amazing fries once again.

Paniolo Fries
The fries on their own are really good, especially with the house sauce, but since I wasn't planning on eating anything else, I ordered the Paniolo Fries. Topped with grilled pineapple, bacon, onion rings, BBQ, and Seven Brothers Sauce, it truly is a meal in itself.  Of course I didn't finish it, but it was so good!

Bruce Irons
What Seven Brothers is really known for is their burgers. The Bruce Irons is marinated with Teriyaki sauce and topped with a 1/2 avocado.

Seven Brothers also offers kids meals at a great price (includes a drink!).

Angel's Ice Cream

Despite the number of times we've driven past Laie Shopping Center, I had no idea Angel's Ice Cream existed!

While dining in the shopping center recently, I happened to notice the little shop, so I made sure we stopped by after lunch.

Cotton Candy

Double Fudge Brownie

Small shave ice

Rainbow shave ice - Banana, Strawberry, Vanilla
The options at Angel's Ice Cream are endless.  You can get ice cream, shave ice, smoothies, soft serve, bubble drinks, sundaes, acai bowls, and more!

And you can add all sorts of toppings - candies, cookies, mochi, boba, etc., to any item!

We played it safe, however - ice cream and shave ice + ice cream.

The small ice cream was pretty big!

Service was very friendly, and now I know where to go if I'm in Laie and craving ice cream or shave ice!

One of My Favorite Restaurants in Laie - Pounders

Earlier in the year we dined at Pounders at the Hukilau Marketplace at Polynesian Cultural Center, and had a great dining experience.

The menu has slightly changed since then, but I am glad to see that they still offer the Kids Build-Your-Own-Pizza option.

My kids loved making their own pizzas!
Pepperoni and Ham Pizza

Mushroom, Pepperoni, Sausage, Olives, Green Peppers, Pineapple, and Red Onion Pizza
My oldest son opted for the Cheeseburger once again, but this time with French Fries (the fries are so addicting!).

My husband and I both ordered specials of the day.

Fish & Chips

I ordered the Fish & Chips - battered and fried pieces of mahi served with a housemade tartar sauce alongside (addicting) fries.  The fish was so good!  I am often hesitant to order fish & chips at restaurants, fearing the fish may be too fishy, too dried out, or too bland, but this fish was perfectly cooked and so tasty!
Rib Eye
My husband ordered the other special of the night - the Rib Eye, which was accompanied by Ulu Mashed Potatoes.  He really enjoyed it.

For dessert, two of my kids ordered Vanilla Ice Cream, and another couldn't resist the Chocolate Peppermint Sugar Cookie from the bakery display case.

Service was great, and Pounders just keeps getting better each time I visit.

It really is one of my favorite restaurants in Laie!

Seven Brothers

I've been wanting to try Seven Brothers for a long time now, but it's so far away (in Laie, and another location just as far in Kahuku), and we had to find a free Saturday (since on Sundays the restaurant, as well as most of Laie, is shut down for religious reasons).

We finally found ourselves with a free Saturday recently, so we made the 1+ hour trek to Laie.

Plain Cheeseburger

Crazy Fries

Paniolo Burger

Paniolo Fries
Ironically, despite my eagerness to try Seven Brothers, it wasn't because of the burgers, since I don't eat burgers (although they do offer fish and vegetarian options), but I wanted to try the fries.

Yes, the fries.

Large, thin, scalloped slices of potatoes that are perfectly seasoned, and smothered with the yummiest of toppings.

I opted for the Paniolo Fries, which were topped with grilled pineapple, bacon, onion rings, BBQ, and Seven Brothers Sauce.

It was really good, but I felt the toppings were just a bit too much, and it was hard to taste the potatoes at all.

I actually liked the Crazy Fries better - seasoning, grilled onions, garlic, cheese, and house sauce.

The fries are actually great on their own too, but it's hard to resist fries topped with onions and cheese!

My husband had the Paniolo Burger, which includes the same ingredients that are on the Paniolo Fries - grilled pineapple, bacon, onion rings, BBQ and Seven Brothers Sauce.  He really enjoyed the burger.

Each of my kids got a plain Cheeseburger (lettuce, tomato, onions, and house sauce come with all burgers, but my kids just wanted the cheese).

Service was excellent at Seven Brothers, and I'm glad we finally got to try the place.

I just wish the restaurant was not so far away!

Pounders at Hukilau Marketplace Revisited

Named after popular Pounders Beach, which was once the site of a dock to offload passengers, including royalty, Pounders restaurant at Hukilau Marketplace is a welcome addition to the Laie area.

Having opened just last year, Pounders has already gone through some changes - new chef, new menu, and although we had an overall good dining experience during our first visit last year, we were excited to give Pounders a second try.

Dragon Eye Crab Cakes
The Dragon Eye Crab Cakes were absolutely delicious.  Full of crab meat and crispy on the outside, the crab cakes were topped with a fantastic lilikoi-cilantro aioli.
Pounder's Fresh Poke
We also ordered the Pounder's Fresh Poke - a generous serving of poke that could be a meal in itself.
Hukilau Sandwich
I opted for the Hukilau Sandwich for my dinner entree.  The enormous sandwich consisted of battered, golden-fried locally-caught Mahi Mahi.  It was really tasty, and I loved the seasoned fries that accompanied it!

Fried Opakapaka with Sweet Chili Sauce
Blanched Vegetables and Rice
The catch of the night was Opakapaka, which my husband ordered fried with a sweet chili sauce. When our server brought the Opakapaka to our table, we were so taken aback by how huge it was! One of my son's even asked "Is that a shark?"

The rice and veggies that accompanies the fish were brought out on a separate plate, and this single meal could easily have fed our family of five.

The sweet chili sauce gave the fish a very nice flavor, and needless to say, there were a lot of leftovers (which had to be put in a pizza box since a regular takeout box was too small!).
Kids Little Buddy's Cheese Burger with Ulu Mashed Potatoes
Kids meals are a few dollars cheaper now - they still come with a drink, but no longer come with dessert.

One of my sons ordered the Little Buddy's Cheese Burger, and he asked for Ulu Mashed Potatoes (my son really loves mashed potatoes!) even though it wasn't listed as a side with the burger, but our server said it was no problem to substitute.

My other two sons ordered the Build Your Own Pizza, and they literally built their own pizza!

They got to roll out the dough, spread on the sauce, add cheese and other ingredients, and watch their pizzas get placed in the kiawe-wood-burning brick oven.

There are just two desserts on the menu, and the one we wanted (Red Velvet Chocolate Molten Lava Cake) was not available, so we opted to get desserts from the display case.

We picked a Dream Cake (from Ted's Bakery) and a Guava Cheesecake.
Dream Cake
Guava Cheesecake
I only ate the Guava Cheesecake, and it was so good!  It was creamy and dense, with a hint of guava.

Our server was very friendly - in fact everyone at the restaurant who assisted, including the employee who helped with the pizzas, and another who gave us our desserts - were all so nice! As the night went on the service did seem to slow down a bit because it got busier, but overall our experience was a lot better than our first visit, especially in terms of the food.

I would have liked to have seen some chicken options on the dinner menu, but the new menu offers a nice variety of beef, pork, and seafood dishes, as well as a vegetarian dish!

And I would gladly return just for the build-your-own-pizza option for the kids. That was definitely a highlight of the meal!

Pounders offers plenty of seating indoors in air-conditioned comfort or outdoors on the open lanai, and you will surely be served with aloha!

Pounders at Hukilau Marketplace

After spending a morning on the beach in Laie, we decided to check out Hukilau Marketplace for the first time.

We were all hungry and it was a very hot day, so we decided to eat in air-conditioned comfort in Pounders.

Kids Popcorn Chicken Nuggets with French Fries

Char Siu Beef Brisket Banh Mi

Cajun Mahi Mahi Burger with Pupukea Green Salad and Naked Cow Dairy Buttermilk Dressing
Kids Mac and Cheese with French Fries

Kids Brownie a la Mode
I had the mahi sandwich, which I enjoyed very much.  The mahi was cooked perfectly, and the papaya-tomato relish gave it a very nice flavor.

My husband was disappointed in his Bahn Mi sandwich.  The beef brisket was overcooked and very tough.

Kids meals are a bit pricey at $10, but the meals do include a drink and dessert.  Each of my kids ate up their meals, and the brownie a la mode was a very nice ending to their lunches.

Service was good, and I'm glad there's a new dining option in the Laie area!
