Everything was tasty and we did have some leftovers (enough for a couple of people). I really liked the chicken and man doo.

My in-laws have been raving about Newtown Korean Restaurant for ages, and they finally treated us to dinner so we could experience it for ourselves. And honestly? It did not disappoint.

From the moment we walked in, the service was warm and welcoming. The dining room has that comfortable, homey feel that makes you want to settle in and stay awhile. Portions here are known to be generous, so we ordered family-style and shared everything.

Our dinner lineup included kal bi, seafood pancake, fried shrimp, fried mandoo, and a deep-fried whole chicken.

Before any of the mains even reached the table, seven small plates of banchan arrived to tide us over—each one delicious and fresh.

The kal bi was tender and flavorful, and the pancake had that perfect balance of crisp edges and soft, savory interior. The fried shrimp did seem like the premade frozen kind, but my boys devoured it, so no complaints there.

All in all, I can absolutely see why my in-laws enjoy coming here so much. Good food, friendly service, and a cozy atmosphere—it’s an easy place to relax, enjoy a meal, and feel right at home.

I recently celebrated my birthday with my family at Yakiniku Seoul in Honolulu — a place that holds a lot of sentimental value for me. The last time I dined here was with my father, who has since passed. Coming back felt like a quiet way to honor his memory, and I’m so glad I chose to return.
I had forgotten how good this place really is! From the moment we sat down, the banchan (Korean side dishes) brought everything to life — flavorful, varied, and just enough to keep us happy while we waited for our main dishes.

To make things easier (and quicker), we let the kitchen cook our meats. I usually prefer not to grill at the table when we’re eating out — doesn’t that defeat the purpose a little? Sometimes it's nice to just sit back and enjoy the meal without doing the work.
We shared a generous spread: mandoo (dumplings), chop chae (glass noodles), seafood pancake, boneless kalbi, sliced brisket of beef, and BBQ chicken. Every bite was packed with flavor. I thought we’d definitely have leftovers, but everything was so delicious we ended up finishing it all.
I can’t wait to return, and next time, I’ll make sure to take a picture of all the dishes!

The Truffle Mandoo included 4 different kind of mushrooms, zucchini, and mushroom paste. The Mandoo was perfectly cooked and the filling was so scrumptious.

The Korean Chicken plate came in a huge box! Deep fried chicken with gochujang sauce and house-made gnocchi nuts were accompanied by purple rice, salad, and kimchi.

My husband and son loved the Bibimbap with Spicy Chicken. It was so good, that my son ate up all the vegetables (it was that apple gochujang sauce that he couldn't get enough of).
