Happy Hour at Roy's Ko Olina

My friend and I were in Kapolei for an afternoon event that ended early, and as we were searching for a place to go for happy hour on the Yelp app, we came across Roy's Ko Olina, and saw that they had a check-in offer for a free chocolate souffle, so we booked it over to Ko Olina and made it just in time for last call (for the happy hour menu).

Happy hour and pupus are offered daily from 2-5 pm on the outside lanai of the restaurant, overlooking the Ko Olina Golf Course.

The weather could not have been more perfect for an afternoon of drinks, good food, and good company.

I was in the mood for something sweet to drink, so I ordered The Ultimate Raspberry Lemon Drop - it was the perfect thirst-quencher on this sunny Saturday afternoon.

Also on the happy hour menu (which the restaurant calls the "Aloha Hourz Menu") are these Garlic Butter Seared Shrimp & Garlic Fries. It's an interesting combination (two pieces of shrimp and french fries?!) but they were both delicious.

We also ordered the Ko Olina Dragon Maki and Y Hawaii Kai Style Crispy Crab Cakes, even though they were not on special.

I always order the crab cakes whenever I dine at a Roy's Restaurant. Their crab cakes are full of real crab meat and not a lot of fillers.

We finished off our meal with Roy's Melting Hot Chocolate Souffle, which is one of the main reasons for us coming here. Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of it, but there is a picture of one in Gem's previous review (click here).  Don't forget that it takes 30 minutes to prepare, therefore if you plan to order this for dessert, inform your server ahead of time.

Happy Hour at Monkeypod Kitchen

I FINALLY made it to Ko Olina to try Monkeypod Kitchen by Merriman, which has been open for years. Friends have raved about it's mouth-watering and affordable Happy Hour menu, and Gem has blogged about this restaurant numerous times (most recently exactly a year ago!), therefore I was really excited when our Sunday afternoon plans brought us out to the West side.

Happy Hour starts at 3 pm, and we arrived just in time for the start of it. The hostess asked us if we wanted to sit inside or outside, and before I could respond, she said that the table that was available inside was in the sun, so she recommended that we sit outside. I took her word for it, but if I could do it again, I would highly recommend sitting inside (I'll explain in a bit).

When we got seated, we immediately put in an order for a cheese pizza for the boys, and it came out really quick. I love places that whip out the kids meals quickly since as we all know, hungry toddlers are like ticking time bombs.

The boys loved the cheese pizza!

The hubby and I shared a handful of appetizers, which were all 50% off because it was Happy Hour ...

Garlic Truffle Oil Fries

Pumpkin Patch Ravioli

Wood-Roasted Free Range Chicken Wings

Kauai Shrimp & Hamakua Mushroom Potstickers

And of course, you cannot skip dessert at Monkeypod - they are known for their pies, so we ordered a slice of strawberry pie. Usually my boys do not partake in the desserts that I order, however, they ended up eating 99% of it!

Strawberry Pie

The nice thing about sitting outside is seeing the Hawaiian Railway Train (my boys got so excited as it made its way past the restaurant).

However, I would not recommend sitting outside for three reasons - it's HOT, there are flies, and birds.

Otherwise, Monkeypod is a great place for Happy Hour dining! :)

Two Scoops Ice Cream Parlor

I love going to ice cream shops, and we recently went to Two Scoops Ice Cream Parlor.
Chocolate

Hawaiian Mud Pie

Strawberry
Although there were only a small number of flavors compared to most other ice cream shops on Oahu, and the prices were on the high side, the service was friendly, and the ice cream was very good (the ice cream they serve is Dave's Ice Cream).

The ice cream definitely satisfied our sweet cravings on a hot and sunny day!
