Lady Bird Johnson shared inspirational words by saying, “Where flowers bloom so does hope.” In spreading love and cheerful prospects for the summer, Big Island Candies is proud to announce a collaborative box with prominent local artist, Lauren Roth, who is most known for her vibrantly uplifting prints. The special, limited-edition box aims to brighten any mood with its floral box aesthetics and confection assortment. The Big Island Candies x Lauren Roth box will be released on Saturday, August 2, for $57 online and at the Big Island Candies Flagship Store and Factory, and at the Ala Moana Center store for $59.
Consistent with Lauren Roth’s artistic ethos of striving to bring uplifting island vibes to any space, transporting people “to a world of ease, where palm trees sway,” the special box features her inspirational artwork “From the Heart.” Just as the box’s design seeks to cheer people up with its lively floral palette, the contents will aim to do the same, but via an assortment of delicious confections: seven Macadamia Nut Shortbreads, seven Chocolate Chip Macadamia Nut Shortbreads, six Milk Chocolate Dipped Macadamia Nut Shortbreads, six Dark Chocolate Dipped Macadamia Nut Shortbreads, two Milk Chocolate Covered Macadamia Nut Brownies, two Dark Chocolate Covered Macadamia Nut Brownies, three Milk Chocolate Covered Macadamia Nut Toffees, three Dark Chocolate Covered Mika Mints, and two Macadamia Nut Biscotti with Milk Chocolate Waves.
Timed with the launch on August 2, there is a free community event that will give children ages 7 to 15, including those from HUGS, an opportunity to paint with Lauren Roth at the Ala Moana Center store from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (with slots available at 10:15 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 11:45 a.m., and 12:30 p.m.) Families are encouraged to sign up for a complimentary 30-minute painting session in advance by emailing the team at aloha@bigislandcandies.com with the desired time, also including “Art Event” in the email subject line. Space is very limited, so people are urged to sign up as soon as possible to secure a spot. A portion of the proceeds from every sale of the Big Island Candies x Lauren Roth special box starting on August 2 through the end of the month will continue to radiate hope by benefitting HUGS for Hawaii’s Seriously Ill Children and Their Families. Their mission is to strengthen Hawaii’s families and improve their quality of life as they face the emotional and financial hardships of caring for a seriously ill child.

“The color palette for the artwork featured on the Big Island Candies box is a little bolder and brighter than my usual look,” discloses Lauren Roth. “When I paint, I am not necessarily thinking about what I am doing; it’s just my hands and heart leading the way and my eyes and mind are along for the ride. I was experiencing a lot of change, and going through a very enjoyable creative time when working on this. This piece really speaks to me, which is why I titled it ‘From the Heart.’ I hope the Big Island Candies customers love it too!”
