Visit Dallas: Cane Rosso

While in Dallas, a friend's husband suggested we go to Cane Rosso.  Cane Rosso is a Texas pizza chain that started out in mobile food service.  

We went to the Deep Ellum location and ordered take-out.

Cheesy Garlic Bread

The Cheesy Garlic Bread was just as cheesy and garlicky as one would expect.  Very delish!

Jabroni

The Jaborni pizza was topped with pepperoni, tomato sauce, house mozzarella, and pesto.  The pizza crust had a really nice char, and all of the toppings combined for a very great pizza.  I especially loved the drizzle of pesto throughout.

Maybe next time we'll have time to dine in!

Visit Texas: AT&T Stadium VIP Tour

My husband is a Dallas Cowboys fan so of course we had to do a tour of the AT&T Stadium when we were in Texas.

We booked tickets for the VIP Tour, in which a very knowledgable tour guide shared with us a lot of knowledge about AT&T Stadium.

We learned about all that went into the building of the stadium, the different types of seatings, and even the purposeful design elements (like the football shaped lights).

We got to go into the locker rooms, the cheerleaders' locker room, the box seats, and even the press box.

The day we toured, the stadium was being readied for a soccer tournament, thus the colors.  We were able to go down next to the field, but we couldn't go on the field.

The size of the stadium is just so immense!  It's easy to get lost, so the guide did a great job of making sure people stayed together and went to the restroom only on designated breaks (because if you wandered off to a restroom on your own, you could easily get lost!).

I do hope to return to watch an actual Dallas Cowboys game one day!

It was an interesting 90-minute tour for even non-Dallas Cowboys fans, and definitely a must-do if you are a fan.

Visit Dallas: The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza

The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza was somewhere my husband wanted to visit while in Dallas, and I'm so glad we went, because it was so intriguing!

I admit - when it comes to the events surrounding John F. Kennedy's assassination, I knew just the basic timeline, but The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza really went into detail about what happened on November 22, 1963, as well as the events leading up to that fateful day.

The Sixth Floor Museum is the former Texas Book Depository where Lee Harvey Oswald worked, and it is where a "sniper's perch" and rifle were found after JFK's assassination. 

The archival video footage and photos really offered immense details of this tragic day. 

Coming upon the enclosed "sniper's perch" was quite eerie.  

What I found most interesting was the conspiracy theories (that continue to this day), as well as the extensive research and re-enactments that were done (and continue to be done) that made this infamous event so controversial.

It's a small museum, but the exhibits really take you back in time, giving you a minute-by-minute, even second-by-second, glimpse of how elation turned quickly into horror and then sorrow.     

New information and artifacts are continually reviewed in this historic case.  We may never know the truth as to how things really happened and why, but The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza presents information for visitors to peruse, and perhaps come up with their own conclusions.

Visit Dallas: Ellen's

My favorite meal in Dallas was at Ellen's. This very popular brunch spot was packed on a Saturday, but it didn't take long before we got buzzed for a table.

Mushroom Garlic Scramble

I had the Mushroom Garlic Scramble, which included lots of garlicky mushrooms, bacon, eggs, goat cheese, avocado, and a buttermilk biscuit.  It was a plateful of many of my fave all-day foods, and I nearly ate the entire dish!

Joe's Gritty Balls

Joe's Gritty Balls consisted of grits, bacon, and jalapeno.  These were delish, with a spicy kick!  

Pancake Pot Pie

The Pancake Pot Pie was enormous - it included layers of pancakes, bacon, sausage, eggs, gravy, and cheese.

The food and service were both fantastic.  Highly recommend Ellen's if you love brunch as much as I do!

Visit Dallas: Kate Weiser Chocolate

While walking around Trinity Groves, I stumbled upon Kate Weiser Chocolate, so of course I had to check it out!

Kate Weiser is known for hand-painted confections that are truly works of art!

They chocolates looked so pretty!  They were beautiful, edible jewels.

I ended up getting come Chocolate Eggs for the kids (it was near Easter when I visited), a Cookie Butter Bar, and a Chocolate Chunk Cookie!

Kate Weiser Chocolates make a great gift, and be sure to treat yourself too!

Visit Dallas: Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream

Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream is an Ohio-based chain of ice cream shops, featuring flavors by James Beard Foundation Award winner Jeni Britton.  

There are numerous shops throughout various states, and you can also buy pints of her popular flavors at grocers (even in Hawai`i).

Since we went to a different ice cream shop during our first Ohio visit, we thought we should finally try Jeni's even though we were in Texas.  

Texas Sheet Cake + Gooey Butter Cake

Milkiest Chocolate + Darkest Chocolate

Salted Peanut Butter with Chocolate Flakes + Gooey Butter Cake

I had the Salted Peanut Butter with Chocolate Flakes + Gooey Butter Cake flavors.  

You can't go wrong with a chocolate and PB combo.  I loved the slight saltiness of the pb, and the slightly bitter dark chocolate flecks balanced out the ice cream nicely. 

My fave of the two flavors was the Gooey Butter Cake.  Cream cheese ice cream was mixed with vanilla cake pieces and a caramel-butterscotch swirl.  Such a divine, indulgent combination of flavors!

Visit Dallas: Zoli's

It was another long day of exploring Dallas, and we weren't in the mood for a huge meal for dinner, so we simply ordered pizza from Zoli's. 

CBR

The CBR Pizza was topped with chicken, bacon, pickled jalapenos, and ranch, and had an "everything-bagel" crust!  I liked the combination of the toppings, and I enjoyed the saltiness of the crust.

Yankee Stadium Garlic Bread

The Yankee Stadium Garlic Bread was really delicious!  It was a seeded roll with garlic butter, mozzarella, Locatelli pecorino, parmesan, and oregano.

Visit Dallas: Emporium Pies

Emporium Pies is a Texas-born pie shop, which currently has 4 locations throughout Texas.  I'm not a huge pie fan, but a friend's husband recommended it, so we gave it a try.

Nannerz

If I did have to pick a pie, it would be a Banana Cream Pie, and the Nannerz consisted of banana custard and caramel sauce.  The caramel sauce was a little too sweet for me, but I liked the banana custard.

Lord of the Pies

Lord of the Pies, the best-seller, is a deep dish caramel apple pie that turned out to be my fave.  The buttery crust and sweet crumb topping balanced out the tart apples nicely.

Cloud 9

Cloud 9 is the second best-seller, and is a butterscotch, caramel, brown sugar meringue pie.

Blue Steel

Blue Steel is a blueberry pie.

Smooth Operator

The French silk chocolate pie had a salted pretzel crust, and did indeed look silky smooth!
