TRAVELLING BRICKS: An Exhibition Made of Lego® Bricks is currently on display at the Bishop Museum on Oahu, and it's a must-see for all ages.
I've visited this museum many times growing up (school field trips), and a handful of times as a parent to attend special exhibits such as this one.
The boys were really excited to check out this exhibit. They are five years old and really like to play with Legos® now.
After getting our wristbands at the admissions desk, we headed outside to the Castle Memorial Building.

Each display has a description of what it is and its historical significance, along with the number of Lego® pieces it's made of. I cannot begin to imagine what it takes to design these displays, let alone build it. For example, the 23 foot Titanic display consists of 200,000 pieces and weighs 551 pounds! When I help my boys build their 90 piece Lego® sets, it takes close to an hour and my brain is fried by time we're done!
After we made our way through the displays, we entered the area where kids and adults can unleash their inner creativity and create their own Lego® displays. This play area had two pits full of over 300,000 Lego® pieces that kids could actually walk through or play in. There were also a few kids-size tables and chairs.
My boys were hesitant to immerse themselves in the Brick Pit while other kids jumped in with no hesitation!
With some encouragement I did get one of my sons to sit in the pit and he start building.
When I saw a spot on the side of the floor open up, I told the boys to move to this section which was more of a platform with thousands of Legos® at their disposal.

This play area was were most families were at ... for obvious reasons. It was pretty crowded and chaotic at times, with kids building, playing, and chasing each other, which is why we felt more comfortable parking ourselves against the wall. But despite the craziness, we had just as much fun as the boys, helping them build their castle.
Also in this play area were the Hawaii-themed displays created by HILUG (Hawaii Lego® Users Group).

There were bean bag chairs, a table, a few chairs, video, and books for kids or adults to rest or unwind.
And of course, there are Lego® sets available for purchase at the Bishop Museum's Gift Shop!
