Visit Maui: Breakfast at DUO Steak and Seafood

Being the breakfast-lover that I am, I was eager to dine at DUO Steak and Seafood at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea each morning during our weekend at the resort, especially after the fabulous dinner our family experienced at the restaurant.

For breakfast guests can opt for the breakfast buffet or order off the menu.

During our first breakfast visit at DUO, my kids and I chose to order off the menu.

I ordered the Sunrise Quesadilla, which was filled with cheese, eggs, bacon, and green onions, and served with salsa. It was satisfying and delicious!

Each of my kids ordered the Pattycake Pancakes, and we also ordered a side of Bacon for them to share.

My husband ordered the Full Island Buffet, and after seeing my husband arrive at the table with plate after plate filled with a bounty of scrumptious food, my kids and I knew we had to try the buffet the next day.

The buffet offers a variety of baked goods, meats and cheeses, fresh fruit, yogurt, a made-to-order station (pancakes, French toast, oatmeal, waffles, and omelettes), a gluten-free station, miso soup, specialty hot entrees (such as Eggs Benedict and Steak Burritos), and so much more (An Ali`i Buffet, which includes a Mimosa or Bloody Mary, as well as a Wailea Buffet, which offers fruit, bread, pastries, and cereals, are also available).

There are also enhancements to the buffet you can add-on for $10 each, such as ahi sashimi, crab benedict, and grilled sirloin steak.

I loved the selection of foods!  I indulged in savory potatoes, crisp bacon, scrambled eggs, and flavorful muffins.  It's great that favorites like pancakes and French toast are made to order so they don't get soggy.

My kids personally loved the piles of pastries and being able to eat donuts for breakfast!

There is also a Smoothie Bar for an additional charge. Speaking of the Smoothie Bar, I overheard a conversation at the Smoothie Bar that exemplified the Four Seasons service.

A guest asked if there were any beets for a smoothie, and the employee behind the counter advised they had no beets. The employee then asked the guest how long he would be at the resort so when she did get the beets she could make sure there were enough for the remainder of his visit when he goes back to DUO for breakfast!  Talk about service!

And just as with our dinner at DUO, service during breakfast was exceptional, Michael and Melvin, our servers over the weekend, and all those who assisted provided top-notch service.

There's no better way to start a relaxing day at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea than with a superb breakfast at DUO Steak and Seafood.

Visit Maui: The Ola Kino Treatment at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea Spa

Spa ready!

When it comes to pampering myself, I don't. At the most it'll happen once a year, but after my Ola Kino / Ultimate Foot spa treatment at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea, I realized I really need to spoil myself more often.

I had read about reflexology a while ago, and I became intrigued with how various pressure points on one's ears, hands and feet are linked to other parts of the body, and how reflexology could help to ease tension, as well as different ailments.

With that in mind, I was very eager for my first-ever treatment that focused on my feet and included reflexology.

My appointment started off with a tour of the Women's Locker Room, where resort guests have access to a eucalyptus steam room, beauty products, and so much more. Everything you need to get ready for a treatment or freshen up after one (or even after a workout or a day at the pool), is all right there in the Locker Room.

After changing into a robe and slippers and completing a Spa questionnaire, I proceeded to the Waiting Room, where refreshments awaited guests.

A few minutes later my therapist, Carrie, appeared and together we walked to one of the rooms where she explained all about the Ola Kino treatment.

A few of the ingredients for 50 minutes of bliss
A hibiscus-adorned ti leaf-lined tray displayed wooden spoonfuls of products that were a part of the Ola Kino treatment - Volcanic Pumice Salt, a Purifying Turmeric Ginger Clay Mask, and a Lemongrass Lotion.

As the lights dimmed and Hawaiian music filled the air, I stretched out on a heated table with a relaxing eye mask on while Carrie worked her magic on my tired, aching feet.

She first began using the Volcanic Pumice Salt to exfoliate my feet, then proceeded with covering my feet with the Purifying Turmeric Ginger Clay Mask.  She then wrapped each foot in warm Ti Leaves, a process that would help to pull out toxins.  While my feet were being indulged, she began massaging my neck and shoulders.

Carrie worked out all the kinks in the many areas I was stiff, and it just felt so good - I was wishing that I opted for an entire body massage instead.  Every time Carrie applied pressure (which she makes sure you are okay with, and checks if you'd like more or less pressure throughout the session) I could feel the tension release.

Soon it was time to unwrap the Ti Leaves, after which time Carrie slathered on the beautifully scented Lemongrass Lotion.

She massaged my feet for the remainder of the session, and after Carrie explained more about reflexology and how the feet can play an important role in one's overall well-being, I realized it was a sin for me to never have pampered my feet in such a way before.

Even though the focus was on my feet, the treatment left my entire being refreshed and rejuvenated.  I was trying really hard not to fall asleep - that's how soothing and relaxing the session was.

With a gentle touch on the shoulder and a whisper of "Aloha," I slowly, and reluctantly, got up and faced reality.

The 50 minutes of bliss were sadly over.

Carrie walked me over to the Relaxation Room, where I sipped on some water and reflected on the wonderful Ola Kino Treatment.  Yes, I admit that I lingered a little longer than I should have - as a stay at home mom I had to take advantage of every second of "me time" as I could!

But I knew reality (and my husband and kids) awaited outside of the Spa doors, so I went back to the Locker Room to change into my clothes and freshen up.

Upon leaving the Spa I was offered a shot of delightful green juice, which was the perfect ending to a morning at the Spa.
Green juice!
Carrie was a fantastic therapist.  She was very attentive, thoughtful, and answered any questions I had with enthusiasm.  Finding out how much she loved not only her job at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea and all the different people she gets to work with, but also how much she loves Maui, made the experience even more delightful.  She commended the Spa for creating such a wonderful work environment - happy employees translates into happy guests - and I was beyond happy with my treatment.

Thank you to Carrie and the Spa at Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea for the most heavenly 50 minutes I've experienced all year!

Visit Maui: Market Night at DUO Steak and Seafood

Fresh seafood, premium cuts of meat
Executive Chef Craig Dryhurst of Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea is passionate about supporting the local community of farmers and fishermen. Michael Wilson, Head Chef of DUO Steak and Seafood, one of the acclaimed restaurants at the resort, shares the same passion, and this enthusiasm is evident in DUO's menu options, particularly on Friday nights during Market Night.

During Market Night, "Maui's Farmers Market meets Four Seasons," and guests at DUO have access to farm fresh ingredients to create their own tasty and colorful salads.

Guests can also select a from a bounty of seafood and premium cuts of meat to be cooked up for their dinner, and a hand-sliced Charcuterie Stand and Keiki Buffet are also featured during Market Night.

The efforts to support the "farm-to-table" concept has resulted in the support of 70 local farmers and fishermen (some of them are identified on cards displayed in potted locally grown herbs that grace each table), with approximately 70% of the menu being locally sourced.

And DUO takes its support for the community even further, by donating one dollar from each Produce Stand Salad to Grow Some Good, a nonprofit program "dedicated to creating hands-on outdoor learning experiences that cultivate curiosity about natural life cycles, connect students to their food sources, and inspire better nutrition choices."

A very cool aspect of Market Night is the Kids for All Seasons Keiki Corner. Kids can draw, watch movies, play games - basically "kids can be kids" and eat their meals under supervision, while parents enjoy a lovely meal in the main dining area - kid-free, just adults. What a concept!

In addition to the Produce and Charcuterie Stations, as well as the Keiki Buffet, guests can opt for a variety of dishes off of the dinner menu at DUO Steak and Seafood, which boasts an abundance of Hawaii-grown ingredients, such as locally-raised chicken, Kula corn, Keahole lobster, and Molokai sweet potato.

Complimentary Bread
For dinner I opted for the fish & chips. The Mahi was perfectly cooked - tender, flaky fish enveloped in a light, crispy coating that was seasoned nicely and absolutely delicious.

My husband enjoyed the Opakapaka, which was accompanied by Green Beans and Kula Corn.

Kids options are plentiful, broken down by Healthy Selections (roasted chicken, salmon, etc.) and Favorites (e.g. grilled cheese, hot dog, pizza). Also offered on the kids menu are snacks, such as chips and gummi bears, as well as desserts.

For dessert my husband and I shared the Warm Ono Farm Banana Toffee Pudding, with Salted Caramel Fudge and Rum Raisin Ice Cream, which was highly recommended by our server. I actually didn't need much persuasion, since as soon as I heard the words "salted caramel" I knew it's what I wanted.

What an indulgence!  The sticky toffee pudding sat in a pool of golden, salted caramel that was simply divine.

The food at DUO Steak and Seafood was fantastic, and the service was stellar - exactly what I expected from a high-end restaurant in a luxury resort.  Our server, Shane, and those who assisted him anticipated our needs without us ever having to ask for a thing.

The poolside and ocean views were lovely as well, only adding to the exceptional dining experience.

Whether you dine at DUO Steak and Seafood during Market Night or any other evening of the week, you can expect a fabulous meal!
