Visit DC: Georgetown Cupcake

Even though I'm not a cupcake fan, I couldn't leave Georgetown without a visit to Georgetown Cupcake.

A very long line didn't even deter me.  I wasn't about to leave Georgetown without some Georgetown Cupcakes!

So after almost a 40-minute wait on a warm evening, I finally made it into this famous cupcake shop.  A lot of the flavors I wanted to get were already sold out, but I ended up with the following:

Milk Chocolate Birthday

Chocolate Ganache

Peanut Butter Marshmallow Creme

Unicorn

Lava Fudge

I ate the Chocolate Ganache, and I thought the cupcake was good.  I especially liked the creamy ganache, which was my favorite part of the cupcake!

The kids loved the cupcakes as well, so it was worth it to stand in line to see them happily eating the sweets!

Visit DC: Pitango Gelato

After lunch in DC one day, we went across the street to Pitango Gelato.

Instead of focusing on trendy, unusual flavors, Pitango Gelato crafts classic flavors and does them right.

It's hard to go wrong with Milk Chocolate, and that was my fave of the flavors I tasted.

The kids loved the gelato - they ate up their servings in no time!

Whether you get thick, creamy gelato or light, fruity sorbets, you know you're getting quality ingredients - local fruits, premium chocolates, fresh eggs.

Visit DC: Zaytinya

I was talking to Ashley Nagaoka about upcoming trips during an event a few months ago, and mentioned I was going to DC for the first time.  I was excited to find out she worked there for several years and would be willing to give me a list of some must-eats.

At the top of her list was Zaytinya.  This Jose Andres and ThinkFoodGroup restaurant serves up Mediterranean small plates, which allowed our family to try a variety of foods!

Everything was fab - even the complimentary, never-ending baskets of pita (which one of my sons could not stop eating).

The Soujouk Pide was topped with spicy soujouk sausage, kasar cheese, and a 65-degree egg.

The Blue Catfish Skordalia was one of my faves.  The ouzo batter was light and tasty!

The Shish Taouk consisted of grilled chicken, sumac, onions, garlic, toum, and grilled tomatoes.  The chicken was seaoned perfectly!

The Pork Belly Souvlaki was another of my faves.  The pork belly was served with a jalapeno z'houg sauce.

Of course we just had to order our typical Mediterranean faves, like Spanakopita, Falafel, and Hommus.  The Greek Fries were pretty addicting.

I loved the food and the service at Zaytinya.

Visit DC: Ice Cream Jubilee

On a sweltering day in DC, we waited patiently outside Ice Cream Jubilee to open so we could cool off with some delicious, homemade ice cream.

We ordered the Cookies & Cookie Dough and Banana Bourbon Caramel flavors based on the recommendation of one of the employees.

Both flavors were really yummy!  If I had to choose a favorite it would be the Cookies & Cookie Dough -  cookies just pair perfectly with ice cream!

Definitely visit Ice Cream Jubilee for great, premium ice cream in fun flavors!

Visit DC: Ted's Bulletin

A friend of mine recommended Ted's Bulletin while in DC.  I'm so glad she did - it's such a family-friendly restaurant, and the menu is quite extensive!

You'll find lots of familiar comfort food dishes, as well as shakes, and the popular Ted's Tarts!

It was such a hot day in DC, but I couldn't resist the ultimate comfort food pairing - Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup!  I got a deluxe grilled cheese with bacon.  It totally hit the spot!

I also couldn't resist the Loaded Tots! Tots were topped with applewood bacon, asiago, and cheddar, and serve with a vidalia bacon ranch dressing.

Ted's Bulletin offers a very reasonably-priced kids menu with nothing over $5.99.  Most lunch items are offered with fries or fruit.

Of course we couldn't leave Ted's Bulletin without trying one of Ted's Tarts!  The Salted Caramel was so yummy!

Definitely head out to Ted's Bulletin for a meal with the family if you're in DC.  The food and service are great!
