Dat Cajun Guy

Ever since the first time I visited Dat Cajun Guy (when they were a food truck!), I've been a fan.  I absolutely love Cajun food, and Dat Cajun Guy served up some of the best cajun food I've ever tried.

Since they opened up their restaurant, I've tried the breakfast menu, and although I love breakfast, I can't resist their Gumbalaya - Jambalaya with a scoop of Gumbo.

Gumbalaya

It is so amazing.  It's hearty, comforting, with just enough kick to it.

The Brisket Po'Boy was a special of the day.

The Fried Pickles were still addicting, and I loved the Hush Puppies.

There are two Kids Meal options - Fried Fish and Fried Popcorn Shrimp.  Both are just $5.95, and include a side and a drink.

Service was great and the food did not disappoint. No matter which side of the island you're on, it's worth it to get to Dat Cajun Guy in Haleiwa for some delicious Cajun food!

Breakfast at Dat Cajun Guy

Late last year I FINALLY tried Dat Cajun Guy, and I was so excited to learn that they would be opening up an actual restaurant!

The restaurant opened up last month (next to Long's in Haleiwa), and we went to try out their breakfast menu.

Bacon Biscuit Sandwich

Breakfast Plate

Smoked Sausage Biscuit Sandwich

Biscuits and Gravy

Brabant Potatoes

Beignet Bites
The breakfast menu is limited, with just three options - Biscuit Sandwich, Biscuits and Gravy, Breakfast Plate.

The Biscuit Sandwich comes with egg and cheese, with the option to add on protein.

Biscuits & Gravy come with 1 or 2 biscuits, choice of gravy, and the option to add on eggs, cheese, and protein.

The Breakfast Plate comes with 2 eggs, choice of protein, and a biscuit.

I shared the Biscuits and Gravy with one of my kids.  We opted for sausage gravy, and added on eggs and bacon.

The entire dish was so amazing.  The biscuits alone were just incredible, and I loved the sausage gravy, which had huge chunks of sausage throughout.

The Beignet Bites were deep-fried bites of heaven!

The employees at Dat Cajun Guy are super friendly.

I thought the breakfast prices were a bit on the high side, but breakfast is definitely worth checking out.

I'll definitely be back for some Gumbalaya!

Dat Cajun Guy

Cajun food is one of my favorite cuisines, so I've been wanting to try Dat Cajun Guy for a really long time now.  I finally got to indulge in the food from this popular Haleiwa food truck - and I was excited to learn they are opening up an actual restaurant next month!

Every single thing we ordered was absolutely delicious.

The Gumbalaya (gumbo + jambalaya) was so full of flavor - I wanted seconds!  It was total comfort food!

The fried pickles and sweet potato fries were perfectly seasoned, and both were so addicting.

Service was awesome, and I can't wait until the restaurant opens up!  I want to try everything on the menu!

Visit Phoenix: Flavors of Louisiana

Cajun food is one of my favorites, so I couldn't wait to dine at Flavors of Louisiana!

Fried Green Tomatoes
Fried Alligator

Blackened Alligator
Side Salad
Jambalaya with Garlic Bread
Kids Chicken Strips

Fried Catfish with Dirty Rice and Cajun Roll

Kids Corn Dog
Cheesecake with Praline Sauce

The Fried Green Tomatoes were great, and so was the Alligator.

Yes - I actually tried the alligator!

You can order alligator by the ounce, so my husband opted for an ounce of Blackened Alligator and another ounce of Fried Alligator. He and my kids just ate up the alligator (my middle son noted "this is the best chicken ever" even though he knew it was alligator). I was too afraid to try it, but when the server brought out another serving of Fried Alligator because they happened to make extra, I thought it was a sign that I needed to try it.

It was actually really good, and had I not known it was alligator I would've thought it was fish.

As for my meal, I ordered the Jambalaya, and it was delicious - full of vegetables, chicken, sausage - and lots of flavor!

My husband really liked the catfish, and my kids liked their meals too (kids meals come with a side and drink).

The cheesecake was amazing - the Praline Sauce really made the dessert stand out.

Prices were very reasonable (even better was the kids eat free with adult entree purchase deal on the evening we dined) and portions rather large.

The restaurant was packed, and it did take a while for the food to come out, but our server was super friendly, Flavors of Louisiana was a great spot for Cajun food!
