In celebration of MangoMango Dessert's newest seasonal creations, I was invited to a media preview to taste one of their new bingsu. The summer lineup includes the Layered Mango Snowcloud and the Toasted Coconut Snowcloud. Being true blue mango fans, we tried the Layered Mango Snowcloud that came with chunks of mango, popping boba, and a scoop of ice cream on top. The creamy bingsu is huge! Definitely big enough for at least 2-3 people to share.

We also tried MangoMango's version of the popular mango sticky rice drink - the Man-Coco Sticky Smoothie. I really loved that one as it was refreshing and filling. The sticky rice was so delicious!

Visit Seoul: Sulbing Cafe

I was so excited to visit Sulbing Cafe to satisfy my craving for bingsu!  This South Korean dessert chain launched in 2013, and has since expanded to other countries, featuring their ultra soft "snowflakes" in their desserts.

We went to the multilevel Sulbing Cafe in Myeongdong.

Each serving of bingsu is gigantic - meant to be shared, but we each got our own, because why not?  Talk about some delectable treats with brownies, OREOs, chocolate sauce and more.  

Each bingsu comes with a packet of condensed milk that you can drizzle on to your liking.

I had the King Mango Snowflakes, and it was amazing.  The "snowflakes" were super fine and melt-in-your mouth soft, and the toppings were so refreshing!  I loved the mango, the mango ice cream, and even the slice of cheesecake.

It was a fabulous dessert (of course I could not finish it), and definitely a highlight of our trip to Korea.

Visit Hilo: Haneul Cafe

Even though I had just returned from Seoul, when I saw on social that Haneul Cafe (the former Seoul Station) was offering bingsu, I went as soon as I could!

Mango Bingsu

The Mango Bingsu was super yummy!  The ice was super fine, and topped with homemade mango syrup, mango, almond cereal, and mochi pieces.  The best part of it, in my opinion, was how there was a lot of vanilla ice cream in the middle.

It was so amazing - I can't wait to try other flavors!

Kawaii Ice Wave

 

I am usually not a big fan of shave ice desserts, but the "ice waves" from Kawaii Ice Wave have won me over! Kawaii Ice Wave recently opened in Kalihi, offering ice waves (their version of the Korean dessert Bingsu), ice floats, Halo Halo, and soft serve, accompanied by a variety of toppings, and flavors that will please customers of all ages. 

Kawaii's ice waves are made with layers of ultra fine shave ice, with fruit syrup mixed in between, and topped with fresh fruit, syrup, condensed milk, and assorted toppings. I've been here twice, and both times I ordered the strawberry cheesecake ice wave, because I was sharing it with my sons, and I knew they would like it. I also added mochi as an extra topping because the little one likes mochi (and so do I!). Pictured here is the regular size, which is adequate for two people to share. They put a lot of strawberries and cheesecake bites in it, giving the dessert a lot of flavor overall, which is why I like this much more than traditional shave ice. I also like that the ice is ultra fine and pillowy - it just melts in your mouth upon contact.  I would really like to try the milk n cereal dessert one day, since I LOVE cereal, and they offer 12 different kinds of cereal!

They have a small sofa and limited counter seating inside and outside their store.

Kawaii Ice Wave

Brown Sugar Soft Serve

Riding in on the bingsu craze is newest contender Kawaii Ice Wave.  Located next to Hana Tea on Dillingham Boulevard, you have probably seen their delicious ice waves light up your Instagram feed.

I was lucky to be able to attend a Yelp elite event where guests received one complimentary ice wave.  They offer cheesecake ice waves and also milk and cereal ice waves.  I ordered the fruity pebbles ice wave, but I couldn't pass up the brown sugar soft serve with brown sugar jelly so I ordered that too!  The brown sugar soft serve blew my mind, it was that delicious. I've never had the flavor before except in boba drinks and they captured that flavor perfectly. 

The ice wave was also delish and to my surprise, it made it home after a 30 minute car ride!  But it didn't last longer than a few minutes with my kids at home. They loved it!

I recently attended a media event at Snowberry, which opened up in the Mililani Shopping Center in September.

Snowberry specializes in Bingsu, Smoothies, and Bubble Tea Drinks, and at the event, we got to try a variety of their offerirngs.

With 21 flavors to choose from, there is bound to be a flavor you'll love!  Bingsu is a Korean shaved ice dessert consisting of flavor-infused, super fine ice.  They use fresh fruit, juice, milk, and monk fruit to craft the various flavors, resulting in such a delightful treat!  

Of all the flavors we were able to sample at the event, my fave was the mango.  It was just so refreshing!

To your bingsu, smoothies, and drinks, you can add mochi, boba, honey, and more!

The Snow Man is the perfect size for kiddos, and if you want to try more than one flavor, try the Snow Ho Ho, which includes Mango, Melon and Strawberry.

Snowberry - Bingsu Shop Comes to Mililani Shopping Center

Regular Strawberry Snow Bingsu 

My friend @koreankitkat_cravings is all about food and thankfully she let me know about a new bingsu place that was close to me, right in the Mililani Shopping Center (next to Foodland). Snowberry Hawaii Dessert Cafe specializes in made-to-order Korean-style Shaved Ice Desserts available in 21 flavors! They also offer smoothies, specialty desserts, and milk teas.

While we were in the shop, I got a sense of deja vu.  Turns out I have been to one of their Guam locations!  And not just once.  Three times!  My son ordered the strawberry snow bingsu and I tried the Snow Halo Halo - made with layers of red bean, mango popping balls, cornflakes, coconut snow bingsu, taro snow balls, mochi and almonds.  I loved it!

Seating is available for dine in, but if you rather take out, the bingsu is packaged nicely to go.  Snowberry is open Monday through Friday from 11am to 8:30 pm and on the weekends from 11am to 8 pm.  They also offer a stamp card.
