Visit Hilo: Popover Bakery and Cafe

I've been wanting to try Popover Bakery and Cafe ever since they opened up a year and a half ago, but whenever I was in Hilo, they were closed every time I wanted to visit.

But finally...on my most recent visit - they were open, and I had time to visit between meetings (I actually made sure one of my meetings ended early so I could get there before closing time at noon on a Sunday).

Popover specializes in - you guessed it - popovers.  You can get popovers as is, or with sandwich fillings.

I got the Breakfast popover, which was filled with Portuguese sausage, scrambled eggs, tomatoes, onions, red bell pepper, and potatoes.  I liked the twist on a traditional sandwich or wrap, and the fillings were delicious.  I did find it a bit hard to eat as a sandwich, so I just used a knife and fork.

In addition to popovers, Popover sells a variety of sweet treats - cookies, scones, donuts, and more!

Chocolate Chip Oatmeal & Toffee
The cookie was enormous!

Maple Bacon
We lucked out with donuts, as while there, a fresh batch of Maple Bacon and a few other donuts went into the case.  I'm guessing they sell out fast!

I loved the sweet & salty combo of the Maple Bacon.  They didn't skimp on the bacon bits!

Red Velvet Scone

Triple Coffee Scone

We went during lunch, and we fortunately beat the line.  Apparently, the Breakfast popover is a hit, as I overheard almost every customer ordering it.

Satisfy your sweet or savory cravings at Popover!
