Aston Waikiki Sunset Review

Beautiful view of Diamond Head from our room on the 29th floor.

My family and I recently had a one night staycation in Waikiki.  Hawaii residents often look to vacation off island, but the truth is we have one of the most beautiful vacation spots in the world right at our fingertips.  I love staying in Waikiki because there is immediate access to great restaurants and beaches in walking distance and my kids appreciate vacations without a long airplane ride.
This staycation, we had the wonderful opportunity to experience the opposite side of Waikiki that we are used to.  The Aston Waikiki Sunset, a condominium hotel, is located on Paokalani, about a block from Kapahulu and two blocks from Kalakaua.

Check in was a breeze with the friendly staff.

A collection of Hawaiian history for guests to peruse in the lobby.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom partial ocean view room. We had the most fantastic view of Diamond Head.  While the bedrooms and bathroom were on the small side, the separate living area was spacious.  There is a private lanai and a fully-equipped kitchen which would be perfect for families or groups looking for a budget friendly option in Waikiki’s prime real estate.  Waikiki Beach is just two blocks away.

The large living space has a pull out sofa bed and access to a private lanai.

Fully equipped kitchen!  Perfect for families.  You could bake cookies!

The kids loved sharing a room with twin beds.

Queen size bed in the second bedroom.

The bathroom was a little tight for four.

Compact shower and tub.

After we got settled in, we set out for a delicious dinner.  Being in the heart of Waikiki gives you a lot of dining options that we normally don’t have available to us because of the heinous parking situation in Waikiki.  But since we didn’t have a car to worry about, we could walk to anywhere our stomachs desired!   After our great dinner at Jinroku, a couple blocks away, we stopped by the lobby to rent a DVD that is included in the daily amenity fee.  Also included is in-room WiFi, Playstation 3, in-room coffee and tea, daily newspaper, an in-room safe, and local and toll-free calls.

The night time view showcases Honolulu's beautiful city lights.

The next morning, we headed out to Lulu's for a quick breakfast before a dip in the pool.  The kids loved the pool and had so much fun in the 2-3 foot shallow end.  The recreation deck which also includes access to a tennis court, sauna, and gas BBQ grills is open from 9am to 9pm.

The kids stayed at the pool until it was time to check out and then we headed to Waikiki Beach.  Our family had a great time during our quick stay at the Aston Waikiki Sunset.  Its prime location gave us quick access to Waikiki's hotspots and their pool was ideal for children.

Pool is located on the 6th floor.

The pictures of turtles made this pool different and fun!

My son loving the shallow end of the pool.

The kids had the best time playing in the pool.

Mahalo to the Aston Waikiki Sunset for their hospitality and the complimentary stay.  All opinions are entirely my own.
