Visit Waikoloa: Pueo's Osteria

Rita Pizza - made with imported flour

Attempting to escape the cost of $50 pizzas from our resort's restaurant, I did a search on great restaurants in the area and found Pueo's Osteria.  Located in Waikoloa, Pueo's is a modern Italian restaurant specializing in made-in-house pastas and using locally sourced ingredients as well as high-quality ingredients imported directly from Italy.

On a Sunday, the restaurant was very busy with take out orders and diners - some perhaps purposely there for Lasagna Sundays! My daughter and I opted for pasta while my son had pizza.  The pasta was delicious and I easily finished it.  I recommend getting one of their house made breads to start. The mozzarella garlic bread was my favorite.

Tagliatelle alla ragu Bolognese | aromatic meat sauce, veal, beef and pork

Cannelloni | puna chicken, ricotta, spinach, sundried tomato, parmesan, pecorino, besciamella

Big Island sunset

We were seated outside with a perfect view of the sunset. Dinner was great in everyway; from our server to the food and company. Definitely recommend.

On a side note, I noticed on this trip to the Big Island that all the restaurants we dined at charged a credit card fee which varied from 3-4%.

Roy's Waikoloa

Whenever we visit the Big Island, we always make it to Roy's Waikoloa for dinner. It's one of our favorite restaurants of all time. The food is always amazing, and the service is always top notch.  On this particular visit, we treated the in-laws to dinner, and here's what we ordered:

Clams appetizer (off the menu)

Ahi Poke Nachos

Mix Grill

Misoyaki Butterfish

Macadamia Nut Crusted Mahi Mahi

Ribeye Steak

Keiki Meal - appetizer

Keiki Meal - braised short ribs

Keiki Meal - pasta with butter and cheese

Keiki Meal dessert - ice cream cookie sandwich

Pineapple Upside Down cake

Roy's Chocolate Soufflé

We were all STUFFED by the time we finished dessert. The twins really liked their Keiki Meal - especially the dessert!  We can always count on having a great meal at Roy's Waikoloa!

Visit Hawaii Island: Island Lava Java

I visited Island Lava Java in Waikoloa for breakfast a few years ago, and I recently did take-out lunch there.

We ordered Ali`i Sandwiches and Mauna Kea Sandwiches.

The Ali`i Sandwich consisted of a garlic and herb-marinated chicken breast that was topped with provolone cheese, crispy fried onions, a chipotle aioli, and organic arugula.  The chicken seemed a bit on the drier side, but the toppings were a nice addition.

The Mauna Kea came with turkey breast, provolone, organic arugula, sliced avocado, and roasted garlic aioli.

Sandwiches come with fries, sweet potato fries, soup, or salad.

You can text your order in advance to minimize wait times!
