Te Moana Nui - Tales of the Pacific Showing Three Nights a Week at Sheraton Princess Kaiulani

Three nights a week at the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani, guests are transported to tropical islands through the song and dance of Te Moana Nui - Tales of the Pacific.

There are three package options to choose from - Deluxe Dinner & Show, Standard Dinner & Show, and Cocktail & Show.

Guests who opt for one of the two dinner shows dine at the Pikake Terrace's dinner buffet, which has a bounty of options, such as crab legs, sushi, prime rib, and so much more!

An hour prior to the show starting, guests can participate in cultural activities.

My kids had fun doing the Kapa activity, and were a bit apprehensive about the wristlet one in fear of poking themselves with the long needle.  They decided to forego the tattoos, so we made our way into the Ainahau showroom.  We were ushered into our seats in the front row, where we sipped on drinks while musicians and dancers performed until the Te Moana Nui Show started.

A tribute to Princess Kaiulani was made.  Her story is both tragic and inspirational.

Soon the Te Moana Nui (the vast ocean) show started.  Song and dance reflected the cultures of various islands throughout the pacific, such as Samoa, Tahiti, Tonga, Aotearoa, Hawaii, and French Polynesia.

Colorful costumes and graceful dances entranced the audience, while the more lively numbers full of chants, stomps, and slaps energized the crowd.

During the exciting fireknife dance performance, a screen is pulled across the stage to protect the audience. Being so close to the stage, we could feel the heat from the fire!

Towards the end of the show, guests are plucked from the audience to show off their dance moves.  It was hilarious!

All of the cast members returned for the finale. concluding an epic show.

After the show, guests could take photos with the dancers.

Te Moana Nui is a great show for both kama`aina and visitors. Along with the special effects, props, and large video screens, the dancers and musicians did a fantastic job in weaving stories of love, navigation, and family through vibrant costumes, beautiful songs, and intricate dances.  

Little ones may get a little scared during the Aotearoa Haka performance, as the dancers are very loud and their facial expressions look menacing at times.  Overall, however, my kids enjoyed the energetic dances, especially the fireknife dancing.

Te Moana Nui is an entertaining show for all ages, and the performances are sure to engage and thrill the audience!

Rock-A-Hula's Terrace Luau Buffet & Show - A Night of Great Food and Entertainment

Rock-A-Hula is a collaboration between Legends in Concert and Star of Honolulu Cruises & Events. Featuring Hawaiian and Polynesian performances along with tributes to some of the world's most legendary artists, the Rock-A-Hula show takes place on the 4th floor of the Royal Hawaiian Center in the 750-seat Royal Hawaiian Theater.

There are several show packages to choose from, ranging from the Rockin' Show (just the show itself) to the Green Room (an ultimate VIP experience including a backstage tour and a 4-course meal), as well as a variety of enhancements that you can add on (e.g. transportation, photo services).

Our family had tickets to the Terrace Luau Buffet & Show, which allows guests to enjoy an upscale luau buffet beneath a terrace cabana, while enjoying the cool evening breeze.

The blowing of a conch shell signified that guests could get seated for the luau.

We were offered E Komo Mai Tais (non-alcoholic available for kids) and fresh pineapple slices as we awaited the start of dinner.

After a Hawaiian greeting, guests were directed to the buffet line, which boasted a variety of popular luau faves, such as:

Throughout the luau, dancers performed several numbers, and kids went on a treasure hunt in the theater to get fun prizes!

After the luau, guests made their way into the theater to buy drinks at the bar (you can take the drinks into the theater), browse the memorabilia, or shop the souvenir store.

After being ushered into our premier seats in the center section of the Mezzanine, the Rock-A-Hula show started just after 8pm, with Elvis Presley (Johnny Fortuno) drifting in on a canoe.

He sang several of his popular hits, many of which reflected his affinity for Hawaii.

A couple of times throughout the show, Elvis walked through the crowd to give lei and kisses. Some audience members were shrieking and excitedly extended their hands to shake Elvis' hand!

Next up was Celine Dion  (Elisa Furr).  Powerful performances had the crowd in awe.  My favorite performance of hers was My Heart Will Go On.

Next up was a fireknife dance performance, which really thrilled the crowd.

Michael Jackson (Corey Melton) wowed the crowd as well.

During his Thriller performance, there were some scary surprises that really got some people screaming!

My favorite moment of the show (which gave me "chicken skin") was when Michael Jackson performed Somewhere Over the Rainbow as a tribute to three special people, one of whom was Bruddah Iz.

Elvis returned to close out the show, and for the finale, all of the performers gathered on stage to sing, and even the ushers joined in from afar!  It was an awesome ending to a great night!

At the end of the show, guests could take photos with the performers.

The tribute artists were fantastic. Not only do they have to look like Elvis, Michael, or Celine, but they have to sing, talk, dance and play instruments as the real performer would.

Throughout each act, video is shown simultaneously that often corresponds with what the artists are doing on stage.  They really have each performer's nuances down!

The tribute artists, dancers, and band delivered remarkable performances that intertwined with elements of Hawaii to create a show that was nostalgic and captivating.

Although my littlest one did fall asleep towards the end of the show (it ended about 9:20pm, and my kids are usually in bed by 8pm!), all of my kids enjoyed the show as much as my husband and I did. My oldest loved Elvis, and there were several times when he got up to dance (and I immediately had him sit down so he wouldn't block the view of the people behind us). Rock-A-Hula is definitely a great show for the entire family.

Through September 30, Rock-A-Hula is offering a "child free" special! The Rockin’ Show package is $55.00 for adults and free for children ages 3-11 with each paid adult. Kama’aina rates are available with a valid Hawaii I.D, and special upgrade prices are available for dinner packages.

I do have to acknowledge just how amazing the entire staff was. The aloha spirit was so obvious, especially throughout the luau, where the staff members were so friendly. Their enthusiasm was infectious, and I could really see how all of the guests were enjoying themselves.

Burn'n Love Waikiki

Six nights a week at the Holiday Inn Waikiki Beachcomber, the Magic of Polynesia Showroom heats up with the singing and dancing of Leo Days as Elvis Presley in Burn'n Love Waikiki.

After having found great success in Maui (where it continues to show), Burn'n Love was brought to Waikiki over the summer, entertaining fans of all ages.

Our entire family went to watch Burn'n Love Waikiki recently. 

While we waited for the show to start, trivia was shown on screen, and the kids were excited when we all got bags of popcorn to munch on.  Drinks could also be ordered throughout the show.

The show started off with Elvis descending from above, and the first set of songs reflected his first concert in Hawaii in 1957 - All Shook Up, Blue Suede Shoes, and Love Me Tender - to name a few.

Subsequent sets included Elvis' Pearl Harbor Concert in 1961 (Jailhouse Rock, Hound Dog, GI Blues, etc.); Elvis' Three Films in Hawaii from 1961-66 (Blue Hawaii, Return to Sender/Rock-A-Hula Baby Medley, Hawaiian Wedding Song); Elvis's Aloha from Hawaii Concert in 1973 (e.g. Suspicious Minds, Little Sister, Burning Love).

The crowd was singing along, shaking their heads to the beat, and at times screaming with excitement during the performance!

Elvis would come out into the audience and give swooning ladies his lei or scarf, and he had a great sense of humor as well.

You could tell that Leo is a huge fan of Elvis - his singing and dancing was fantastic!

Between sets old footage was shown on screen and recordings of interviews were played, and a back-up singer and dancers kept the crowd entertained.

The entire production was great - from the backup dancers and singers, the live band, the sets, and of course, Leo - everyone helped to create a show that was lively, energetic, and nostalgic.

Because the show started a little after 8:30pm, and my kids are usually in bed by 8pm, my younger two kids were sleepy, and they also thought the music was too loud.

However, my oldest son really enjoyed the show, and even got up to dance with the rest of the audience during Come on Everybody.

Burn'n Love Waikiki is a very family-friendly show - there were several other kids in attendance.  My kids were not very familiar with Elvis Presley, but they are now!

Leo Days was an awesome Elvis, and because of him I still have Elvis Presley songs stuck in my head!
