Visit Lincoln: Veterans Memorial Garden

The Veterans Memorial Garden in Antelope Park in Lincoln, Nebraska, is a quiet place of remembrance that happens to be near the Antelope Park Playground.  As my kids played at the playground, I strolled through the Veterans Memorial Garden.

It was quite moving to see the immense number of names of those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and as I came upon the memorial dedicated to the events of December 7, 1941, I reflected upon my visits to the Arizona Memorial and Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum.

It was a peaceful stroll, reminding me of how grateful I am to have what I have...

Visit Lincoln: Antelope Park Playground

Antelope Park Playground is a large park in Lincoln with two playgrounds - a smaller one for toddlers, and a bigger one for older kids.

There are all sorts of colorful and twisty slides, along with equipment to crawl under or climb on, and lots of swings.

As the kids played (under my husband's supervision), I strolled the grounds and took a closer look at some of the monuments in the park.

Restrooms, benches, and plenty of shade are available.

The playground is somewhat in the middle of the huge park.  We parked in a lot on the outskirts and walked a trail to the playground, but there is a lot adjacent to the playground.

Visit Nebraska: Sunken Gardens

While in Lincoln, Nebraska, we made a quick stop at the Sunken Gardens, which displays over 30,000 plants in a different theme each year.  This year's theme, according to the website, was "Sun Salutations," featuring "fire" colors.

The Sunken Gardens consists of three sections - a Healing Garden (with white blossoms to promote calm and serenity); a Perennial Garden (with shade-loving plants); an Annual Garden (where the garden theme is presented).

We visited in the middle of summer, so we did not see as many blooms as we had liked to, but it was still a nice place to visit and stroll through.

Visit Nebraska: Misty's Steakhouse and Brewery

Nebraska is known for their steaks, so we dined at Misty's Steakhouse and Brewery in Lincoln.

Ribeye

French Onion Soup

Onion Rings
My husband enjoyed the huge Ribeye.  I was not very hungry, so I just ordered French Onion Soup  and a side of Onion Rings.  We ended up getting (and being charged for) a full order of Onion Rings, but I didn't mind since the kids helped me eat them.  They were really good.

A kids menu is offered, and meals include a drink.
Pasta Alfredo

Skewered Shrimp

Mac N Cheese
Overall the service was good and the food was good as well.

While in the White Mountain region of New Hampshire, we stopped at Texas Toast Eatery for brunch.

Cantina Burrito

Lone Star Omelette

Chocolate Chip Pancakes

One Egg, Toast, Hash Browns
I opted for the Lone Star Omelette, which includes a choice of three fillings.   The breakfast also included fruit, toast, and hash browns.  It was so much food!

My husband enjoyed the Cantina Burrito, which was stuffed with sausage, eggs, and cheese, and topped with pico confetti and queso sauce.  He opted to get it with red potatoes browned with garlic and rosemary.
