Visit New York: Brooklyn Bridge Park

After crossing the Brooklyn Bridge, we decided to spend some time at Brooklyn Bridge Park.

Brooklyn Bridge Park is huge, with bike and walking paths, playgrounds, sports fields, grilling stations, splash pads, restaurants, and more.

While in Brooklyn Bridge Park, we stopped for ice cream at Ample Hills Creamery, and visited several playgrounds.

You get gorgeous views of Manhattan, and you can even see the Statue of Liberty!

Brooklyn Bridge Park actually spans over 80 acres, so walking to the different areas and piers can take quite some time (especially in 90-degree heat!), but it's definitely worth a visit, even for a little while!

Visit New York: Walking the Brooklyn Bridge

On our last full day in New York, we decided to walk across the iconic Brooklyn Bridge.

During a heat wave.

What were we thinking?

Well, I thought we'd be at the bridge early enough that it wouldn't be so hot, but I was wrong.

We were there around 9:30am, and it was already in the high 80s!

The walk started off well - we took photos, and walked at a leisurely pace as we gazed at the buildings.

It really was a neat experience to walk the Brooklyn Bridge and get a different perspective of this popular New York landmark.

There were quite a few people walking the bridge, and there were also many bikers that the pedestrians need to look out for.

But it wasn't long before the complaining started - "I'm tired!" "I'm hot!" "I'm thirsty!"

It got so hot that even I started to get miserable!

But we pushed on, taking rest breaks in whatever shade we could find possible, until we finally got to the other end of the bridge.

It took us about 45 minutes to cross the bridge, which including multiple stops for photos, water breaks, and rest breaks.

The heat really slowed us down, but it was an experience that we will never forget!

Visit New York: Ample Hills Creamery

On a very, very hot day in Brooklyn, we decided to cool off with some Ample Hills Creamery at Pier 5 in Brooklyn Bridge Park.

The Munchies + Sweet Cream & Cookies

Strawberries & Cream

Ooey Gooey Butter Cake + The Munchies

Dark Chocolate
The seasonal ice cream stand was busy, as was expected, since we were in the middle of a heat wave.

Even though it was a scorching hot day and the ice cream was melting and dripping all over, I loved it.  If you order a small you can choose two flavors.  I had the Ooey Gooey Butter Cake - a vanilla cream cheese base with chunks of St. Louis buttercake, and the The Munchies - pretzel base with pretzels, RITZ, M&M's, and potato chips!  Loved the sweet and salty combo. So good!

There are nearby tables under a tent to sit at to enjoy your ice cream.

Ample Hills Creamery was my favorite spot in New York for ice cream!
