Visit Sydney: Harry's Cafe de Wheels

Savory pies are a popular Sydney food item, so of course we had to get some while there.  There are a lot of pie cafes around Sydney, but we ended up getting some from Harry's Cafe de Wheels, a chain that had a location not too far away from our hotel. 

Curry Chicken Pie

I had the Curry Chicken Pie, which had a sweetness from coconut.  It was hearty, with lots of filling, and I enjoyed the flaky crust.

In addition to pies, they have hot dogs, burgers, and more!

The Hot Dog de Wheels was topped with chili, mushy peas, garlic, onions, and chili & cheese sauce.

 They also offer a variety of sweet treats!

Visit Sydney: Royal Botanic Garden Sydney

We decided to explore Sydney on foot the first day, and we found ourselves strolling through the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney.

Located right in the heart of Sydney, making it easy to access from just about any where in the CBD, the Royal Botanic Garden spans 30 hectares, and features over 27,000 plants including ferns, succulents, herbs, palms, and flowers, featured in themed gardens, .   

In addition to native plants, you'll also find plants from other countries.

The Royal Botanic Garden is so huge, but we experienced only a small part of it.  On the grounds are also shops, restaurants, and even lodging!

It made for a lovely stroll as we made our way down to the harbour.  

We saw numerous people picnicking on the lawn, as it was a gorgeous winter day.

Entry to the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney is free, and I highly recommend a stop while in Sydney!

Visit Sydney: The Walrus

Our first breakfast in Sydney was at The Walrus, a charming cafe that also offers lunch.

It was freezing in Sydney, so all the kids got some hot chocolate, all of which came with some cool designs!

Breakfast Roll

Breakfast Rolls are common in Australia, so of course I had to get one.  It was enormous, consisting of a fried egg, a huge piece of bacon, and chili jam.

It was so huge, I had to "knife and fork" it.  It was a great breakfast - one that I could eat every day!

Walrus Omelette

The Walrus Omelette was stuffed with truffled musrhooms and brie on a grilled sourdough.  It was one of the fanciest omelettes I've ever seen!

Buttermilk Pancakes

The Buttermilk Pancakes were so whimsical!  They were surround by fresh berries in a pool of maple syrup, and topped with yuzu mascarpone cheese and "fairy floss." 

Diced Avocado

Diced Avocado was essentially avocado toast with tomatoes, poached eggs, feta, and dukkah - a quintessential Aussie breakfast!

Service was excellent, and it was a great start to our first full day in Sydney!

Visit Sydney: Envoy Cafe

At the bottom floor of our hotel in Sydney was a charming little cafe, Envoy Cafe, that served breakfast and lunch.

One of the kids wanted hotcakes one morning (actually, they could eat hotcakes every morning), so we ordered take-out.

The Strawberry Hotcakes were loaded with more than just strawberries!  There was caramel popcorn, walnuts, blueberries, a house berry sauce, and ice cream on the side!

What a treat!

There are so many cute cafes throughout Sydney, and Envoy Cafe was no exception!

Visit Sydney: The Grounds of The City

There was no shortage of great breakfast spots in Sydney, and The Grounds of The City was no exception.  

Buttermilk Pancakes

The Buttermilk Pancakes were served with mascarpone and an apple & blackberry compote.

Toastie with Bacon

The Toastie came with 3 types of cheese, spinach, caramelized onion, and tomato, and of course I had to add bacon.  It was a great breakfast sandwich with all of my faves!

Chicken Sausage and Egg Crumpet

The takeaway menu is different from what you can order if you dine-in (I really wanted a Brekkie Roll but for some reason they don't offer it for takeaway, which I thought was similar to the Brekkie Burger on the takeaway menu).

Visit Sydney: The Sydney Tower Eye

For some of the most amazing views in Sydney, be sure to check out The Sydney Tower Eye!

The Sydney Tower Eye is accessible via the Westfield Sydney Shopping Centre.  

Completed in 1981, the Sydney Tower stands at 309 meters tall, making it the tallest building in Sydney and the second tallest observation tower in the Southern hemisphere.

After perusing some exhibits and a taking a souvenir photo, we went to the indoor observation deck for clear, 360-degree views of Sydney.  

We lucked out with blue skies and views that spanned for miles.  

We could see iconic buildings, numerous parks, stunning bridges, and popular landmarks.  

We had fabulous views of Darling Harbour and Hyde Park, and could spot the Sydney Football Stadium, Sydney Opera House, St. Mary's Cathedral, and the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

The view was so clear, that we could even see the Blue Mountains, which are over 50 miles away (The Sydney Tower Eye offers the furthest views in Sydney!).

The unobstructed views allowed visitors to watch airplanes fly by from the Sydney Airport, ferries and boats travel to and fro, and cars zoom by.

I personally enjoyed gazing at all the different buildings and styles of architecture, and the kids had fun identifying places we had already visited, like the stadium, where we watched a soccer game, or the harbour where we watched fireworks.  

Entry is timed, and we had tickets for the first time slot which meant the crowds were very minimal.  Throughout our visit, the crowds were never too crazy, and it was still easy to get great shots through the huge windows without any waits or any other visitor getting in the way.

If you have time and want even more of an adventure, consider taking the 60-minute SKYWALK tour, where guests get to walk (tethered) on at outdoor deck for a thrilling experience.

Visit Sydney: Coco Noir Cafe

We were randomly browsing the Westfield mall, and a display case of sweets at Coco Noir Cafe caught my eye.

And my kids' eyes

They each got a  Brownie, and I got a Salted Caramel Finger (because I love all things salted caramel).

It was so sinfully delicious, and quite rich and decadent - not something I could finish in one sitting.

Coco Noir Cafe is a chain throughout Australia, also serving pastas, burgers, and more.
