Explore New York with CityPASS

CityPASS makes it a cinch to visit top attractions in various cities around the world.

During our trip to New York, we used the New York CityPASS, with which you can visit 6 attractions at a savings of 42% over regular 2017 admission prices.

To get a CityPASS booklet, simply buy your pass online to get a printable voucher that you take to the first attraction you visit, and you'll get a CityPASS booklet in return. You can also request your booklet to be shipped to you or your hotel, or buy a CityPASS booklet at one of the included attractions.

The CityPASS is good for 9 consecutive days from the date of first use, so you can spread out your visits out without feeling hurried.

The New York CityPASS includes 3 preset tickets and 3 ticket options:
  1. The Empire State Building Experience
  2. American Museum of Natural History
  3. The Metropolitan Museum of Art
  4. Top of the Rock Observation Deck OR Guggenheim Museum
  5. Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island OR Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises
  6. 9/11 Memorial & Museum OR Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum
When you're ready to use it, just present the booklet at the location indicated on the ticket. At some attractions, CityPASS holders can skip lines. Just be sure not to remove any tickets - the attraction's representative must be the one to tear out the ticket, or else it will be considered invalid. I used CityPASS at The Empire State Building Experience, American Museum of Natural History, Top of the Rock Observation Deck, Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises, and Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum.

In addition to admission to six attractions, you will also get coupons and other valuable discounts in your booklet!

And if you are short on time, the New York C3 Pass lets you choose from 3 attractions!

CityPASS definitely helped to make our time in New York enjoyable!

Mahalo to CityPASS for the complimentary booklets.

Visit New York: Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum

The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum offers visitors an opportunity to learn about various facets of history and technology through its numerous interactive displays and intriguing exhibits.

The museum is housed on the USS Intrepid aircraft carrier.  Over 50,000 menu served onboard this historic ship over its years in service during World War II.  The ship now sits moored on the Hudson River, welcoming visitors to learn not only about its history, but also to view a variety of aircraft, get a closer look at the space shuttle Enterprise, and so much more.

We really enjoyed looking at all of the aircraft on the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum's Flight Deck. This extensive collection of aircraft includes all five of the US Armed Forces, as well as international aircraft, the British Aerospace/Aerospatiale Concorde, and the space shuttle Enterprise. The kids loved seeing all of the different types of aircraft and their varied designs.

I personally thought it was really cool to see all of the sleek aircraft on the top deck of the ship against the backdrop of the towering buildings of New York.

My oldest son really liked the Landing Challenge in the space shuttle Enterprise exhibition area, where he tried his hand at landing the space shuttle.

Visitors could also access the Gallery Deck to see the USS Intrepid's crews' tiny quarters, as well as some of the equipment they used onboard.

The Hangar Deck is where many interactive exhibits were on display.  There were numerous props where kids could take photos, get hands-on with various types of aircraft, and even participate in simulated experiences (for a fee).

The Third Deck showcased where crew members cooked and dined, and a cafe is located on this level as well.

A new exhibition, Drones, gave visitors a look at the history of drones, and how the technology has evolved over the years.

Visitors could also tour the Submarine Growler.

Just visiting the enormous USS Intrepid aircraft carrier was a treat in itself, especially considering its storied past.

The combination of unique and historical artifacts with innovative and hands-on displays makes a visit to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum both educational and entertaining.

Visit New York: American Museum of Natural History

The American Museum of Natural History is the biggest natural history museum our family has visited.

The enormous museum consists of 45 permanent halls (45!!), in addition to temporary exhibitions, and we couldn't wait to start exploring.

The Mammal Halls were some of our favorite exhibits.  The dioramas of animals big and small from all across the world were just amazing!

Animals from Africa, Asia, North America, and even right in New York were on display.  At times we expected the animals to move - that's how life-like they were!

There were even halls for birds, reptiles, and amphibians.  These displays were on a smaller scale, but just as remarkable.

The Fossil Halls were very impressive.  I have never seen such an extensive collection of fossils anywhere else.  From dinosaurs to turtles, mammoths to elks, the number of fossils at the American Museum of Natural History is just huge.

My personal favorite exhibits were those in the Human Origins and Cultural Halls.

In these halls we got a closer look at various cultures throughout the world and learned about different aspects of their lives.  There were displays of clothing, tools, monuments, and other artifacts, some of which were thousands of years old.

Relics from Mexico, India, Africa, Japan, and Brazil, to name just a few places, were on display in all sorts of colors and materials.

It was such a great way to get a peek into the lives of these ancient peoples from centuries ago.

One of my favorite exhibits was the Anne and Bernard Spitzer Hall of Human Origins.  It was fascinating seeing the different displays detailing human evolution.

In the Earth and Planetary Science Halls, we viewed all sorts of meteorites, gems, and minerals.

While at the American Museum of Natural History, we also watched The Dark Universe planetarium show (the best planetarium show I've ever experienced), and were fortunate to view The Mummies exhibit (temporary exhibit through January 8). It was simply mesmerizing to actually see real mummies and learn about the mummification process.

There were just so many interesting displays at the American Museum of Natural History. It was very easy to get lost in this giant museum, but you can download the museum's Explorer app to help you navigate through all of the exhibits.

A visit to the American Museum of Natural History will enlighten and educate.  It's a fantastic place for families to visit while in New York!
