Introducing the Executive Business Lunch at Orchids Halekulani

Orchids Lunch with a View

Orchids at Halekulani may be best known for their amazing Sunday brunch, but they also serve lunch during the week. They have recently introduced an Executive Business Lunch menu that will rotate monthly and feature new seasonal dishes throughout the year. Available Monday through Friday, the Executive Business Lunch offers a two-course prix fixe menu with a choice of appetizer and main course or main course and dessert. The experience is designed to be enjoyed during the lunch hour, which makes it perfect for business meetings and client lunches.

Hawaii Mom Blog was invited to taste the inaugural menu showcasing a selection of Orchids favorites like the vine-ripened Kamuela Tomato Soup and the signature Orchids Burger. Although I was stuffed from the delicious meal, I just couldn't resist Halekulani's heavenly Signature Coconut Cake.

If ordering the Executive Business Lunch, all guests at the table must order the prix fixe menu. While the full Orchids lunch menu is still available, the two menus cannot be combined. You can easily call the hotel to make dining reservations or use Open Table.

Oli's Kitchen - Open Daily for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Avocado Toast

I love any restaurant that serves breakfast all day so I was happy to have lunch for the first time at Oli's Kitchen. Located at Puck's Alley, Oli's Kitchen offers daily breakfast, lunch and dinner featuring local favorites like loco moco, hamburger steak, and more.

Unfortunately due to the egg shortage, I couldn't order the omelet sandwich I wanted. It was no big deal though, because Oli's offers so many great items on their menu. I ended up with the Bulgogi sandwich with fries and it was delicious and filling!

Half and Half Chicken (Garlic and Salt n Pepper)

Oli's Kitchen is locally owned and operated and they strive to work with local suppliers. They are a great casual eatery with great service. Parking is available in the lot with your first hour free without validation. Second hour was $3.

J&S Lumpia Spot Saves My Potluck Day

When I get invited to a potluck, I almost always sign up to bring a dessert. Unfortunately, this was a no dessert occasion so I struggled to decide what to bring. I polled my friends and they said: chili, fruit, noodles. Then I remembered a recent work potluck where I ate more than my share of lumpia. It was so delicious that I remembered it was from J&S Lumpia Spot.

Making an online order was super easy and it was ready right on time. Needless to say, the lumpia was a hit! They were crispy and tasty and are now a go-to for my next potluck.

You can order lumpia in mix and match quantities of  3, 6, and 12 and choose from Meat and Veggie (beef), Pork Shanghai, Banana, and Veggie. Available dipping sauces are sweet chili and garlic vinegar. J&S also offers specialty lumpia, lumpia sampler packs and holiday trays as well as pancit. You can also order frozen packs of lumpia for later.

Located at 4369 Lawehana Street near Target, they are open Wednesday through Sunday. Be sure to check online as they have special hours for the holidays.

Attractive Alterations

After roughly 3 hours of Winterball dress shopping, my daughter finally found a dress she liked, but she said it was too long.  Thankful the search was over, I assured her we could get the dress hemmed.  After we found shoes to match, we went home and I began a search for a seamstress.

The first place I contacted quoted me $70 to hem the dress we paid $89 for so I decided to keep looking.  After my research on Yelp, I discovered that $70 wasn't necessarily unreasonable, but I found Attractive Alterations where the hemming of a gown started at $35.

The owner, Insun, is a very nice lady and had my daughter try on the dress and shoes.  She took a look at the hem and told us she didn't think it needed to be hemmed after all.  I couldn't help but laugh.  However, the straps of the dress were a little loose so she took those up. The charge of $20 was the same as on the price list and we could pick it up in a week.  I was so thankful for a smooth experience.

Attractive Alterations is located on the second floor of Waimalu Shopping Center and no appointment is needed.  They are conveniently open Monday through Saturday and closed on Sundays.  Cash only.
