Dinner at Liliha Bakery at Pearl Highlands

Classic Loco Moco

My friends and I stopped in at Liliha Bakery at Pearl Highlands for a casual dinner. They don't take reservations, but luckily it wasn't too busy at 6pm on a Monday night so we were seated right away. The dinner menu is pretty extensive and includes all day breakfast. I absolutely love their hot cakes so it's always a must order. I also love that this location serves wine and beer. Service was great and the food came quickly. Be sure to stop for those famous coco creams puffs and mochi donuts on your way out!

Liliha Bakery - Nimitz

Liliha Bakery continues to be a popular spot for locals, with now 5 locations throughout the island.  I recently went to the Liliha Bakery at Nimitz for breakfast.
Butter Rolls & Jelly
Butter Rolls & the famous Liliha Jelly were served with our meals.

Oxtail Soup
My friend had the Oxtail Soup.  He said it was a nice portion, and the oxtail was simmered well, but there was no shiitake, and too much star anise.

Country Style Omelette
I had the Country Style Omelette with Bacon, and subbed the rice with Fried Potatoes (for extra).  They sure did not skimp on the omelette fillings!  It was filled with tomatoes, onion, spinach, and bacon.

Chantilly Cake
I couldn't resist the signature Chantilly Cake!
Kouign Amann

I decided to try the Chocolate-Covered Kouign Amann.  It was okay, but I loved the Chantilly Cake so much more.

Service was excellent, and it was nice to see a local spot so busy!

Liliha Bakery

When you think of Liliha Bakery, you probably think of pancakes, waffles, loco mocos, and omelettes.  But did you know they have a mouth-watering lunch and dinner menu as well?

Since we were near the OG location off of School Street during our lunch, the husband and I stopped in for lunch. We both felt like eating fish, so the husband got the grilled mahi mahi plate, and I ordered the grilled mahi mahi sandwich (I had a smaller appetite).

We were not expecting such a big piece of fish! Granted it's a flat slice of fish, but it was still a pretty big portion of fish. And we liked that they offered multi-grain rice as an option.

The sandwich version came with a choice of bread, so I asked for it on a sweet bread roll - it was delicious! I only wish they had French fries on the menu.

There were a handful of people eating the cheeseburger, and part of me regretted not getting the burger.  But there's always next time!

Weekend Tasty Tidbits: donuts, sushi, musubis, coco puffs, pancakes & waffles

National Donut Day is celebrated on the first Friday in June of every year. We left the house extra early so that we could make a pit stop at Purve Donut Stop to get some fresh, made to order donuts for National Donut Day.

The boys like to watch the assembly line. Today one of the owners was working line because of how busy it was.  And this was at 7 am!

The boys always order the Unicorn Butt Sneeze (left) and Smurf Balls (right).

And because it was National Donut Day and there were three of us, we got three FREE Liliko'i Pour Over Donuts!

On Saturday morning, we went to Got'z Grinds to pick up musubis and snacks for a all-day camp for the Boy Scouts.

At 7 am, Got'z was fully stocked with their large selection of musubis, bentos, and other local favorites.

I always feel like a kid in a candy store when I first walk in.

The musubi sampler is a great option for those who want a variety of musubis!

The salmon patty is one of my favorite non-musubi items to buy here.

We enjoyed a late lunch at Kuru Kuru Sushi in Pearl Kai Shopping Center. I used to come here often after tennis matches and practices. They now have two locations (the other location is in Kahala Mall), and they no longer run the conveyor belt. You place your order with the server and they deliver your selections to your table.

It's still a great place for affordable, casual sushi.

I always have to order the salmon at these sushi places.

The boys like the udon (they are not seafood lovers, yet ...)

We celebrated a special birthday in the family, and instead of a birthday cake, the family ordered a Coco Puff Cake from Liliha Bakery!

What a great alternative to a traditional cake! Everyone was amused by the concept - Liliha Bakery's famous coco puffs, pieced together by a THICK layer of Chantilly.

Just look at how much Chantilly is used as the frosting. I had to actually scrape it off from my coco puff because it was just too much. But what a tasty way to celebrate a special occasion. I believe you can order this cake with green tea puffs or cream puffs as well.

Our final tasty meal for the weekend - breakfast at Liliha Bakery! We met up with a few families and thankfully they placed us in the back of the restaurant in a semi-secluded area because the five boys made a lot of noise! Must have been the sugar rush from the pancakes and waffles! Liliha Bakery's Nimitz location was the perfect gathering spot for us because it's very large, can accommodate large parties (we had 11 in our party), and they don't mind issuing separate checks. They are always very accommodating and the service is always great.

Liliha Bakery - Waikiki

While on our recent staycation in Waikiki, we checked out Liliha Bakery's newest location in the International Marketplace ... TWICE! Why did we go twice? Because it was that good!

The restaurant is large, offering both inside and outside seating options. The first day we came for breakfast, we came before 8 and were able to secure a table outside.  The second day, we came after 9am and sat inside since the restaurant was full.

After placing our order for breakfast, our server delivered grilled butter rolls and Liliha Bakery's famous neon red jelly.

The shortstack of pancakes is a-must at Liliha Bakery. The pancakes are very fluffy and always perfectly grilled. And Liliha Bakery never shorts you on the butter (I love that they use room-temperature butter so that it spreads easily without destroying the pancakes).

One of our sons wanted a side of scrambled eggs.

The other son wanted to try the waffle and chicken karaage. I ended up sharing this with him and it was delicious! Whenever you combine fried chicken and waffles, magic always happens. This was indeed magical to eat.  He also wanted a side of fruit to go with his meal.

The hubby enjoyed his two eggs, which came with choice of meat (he chose bacon)...

and also added a side of corned beef hash for us all to share.

Considering how large and busy Liliha Bakery was, service was surpringly quick and they always got our orders correct. Our waters and coffee were always re-filled without us having to ask.  We will definitely return to this Liliha Bakery location on our next Staycay in Waikiki!

Open daily for dine-in or takeout!

Liliha Bakery - Nimitz

Liliha Bakery is one of our favorite restaurants for breakfast (although we RARELY eat breakfast at restaurants!).  We recently hit up Liliha Bakery's Nimitz location on a Sunday morning for breakfast.  Man was it crowded! But, it's a big restaurant with lots of seating, so don't be deterred by the crowds outside when you pull into the parking lot.

While we waited for a table, we went to the bakery (located inside to the immediate right) to buy some pastries.  These cherry butter tea cookies are my absolute favorite cookies from Liliha Bakery. They are soft and chewy, and I think the dollop of cherry jelly in the center of each cookie is the same jelly they serve with their famous grilled butter rolls.

New to the bakery (not sure how new it actually is, but it's new to me!) is the Cinnamon Butter Mochi. I have yet to try this, and I was very tempted to buy it, but I had a lot of sweets at home and decided to save this for another day. That day is coming soon because I can't stop thinking about it.

About ten minutes after we put our names in, we received a text message to inform us that our table was ready! We scored a seat on the counter, which is what I wanted, because I love watching the bakers work their magic in their open kitchen.

This is part of the reason why everything at Liliha Bakery taste so good - butter! Lots of it!

Soon after we put in our order, our waitress delivered the butter rolls. You can't dine at Liliha Bakery without ordering these butter rolls!  It comes with some of the breakfast entrees, but if it doesn't come with yours, you can (and should!) order it as a side order.

I decided to try the Waffard, after recently seeing it on Liliha Bakery's Instagram feed.  It's a waffle with custard, blueberries, strawberries, whipped cream, and nuts (on the side).  If you're in the mood to indulge in something super sweet, this is for you!

The waffle was really crispy, and the custard was not too sweet, which is how I like it.  I was not able to finish it, which meant I got to enjoy the leftovers at home for breakfast the next day!

The hubby ordered the Corned Beef Hash & Two Eggs, a local favorite!

We were very impressed with both the service, quality, and taste of the food.  Coffee was constantly topped off, and we did not have to wait very long for our food (considering how busy it was!).

Liliha Bakery currently has 3 locations to serve you - the original location on Kuakini Street, Nimitz, and Ala Moana.  They will soon be opening two more locations - one at International Marketplace, and one at Pearl Highlands Center!
