Uncle's Chicken

We weren't planning to eat fried chicken for dinner. We were actually picking up take-out for my mom in a nearby restaurant when we spotted Uncle's Chicken and the son asked if we could pop in to see what was on the menu. Apparently Uncle's has been open for a couple of years but this was the first time we've noticed it!

The restaurant was empty when we arrived. It was only 4 pm in the afternoon, so maybe it's just a slow time for them (hopefully!).

The restaurant was very clean and there were a few tables for customers who want to dine-in.

The boys wanted to try the strawberry mango slush while we waited for our order. We would return just for the slush - it was very refreshing!!

We ordered the 10 piece original party wings. The chicken wings were piping hot when we got them! The outside was very crispy, and the inside .. very juicy.  We felt that the wings had a hint of spiciness to it (even though we ordered the original), and that could be the reason why my sons weren't going crazy over it.

While we wouldn't go out of our way for their chicken wings, we would definitely stop by for a slush if in the area.

CM Chicken

Over the past few years, a number of Korean Fried Chicken eateries have popped up on the island.  We recently tried one of them - CM Chicken in Waipahu.

Curry Onion Snow Wings (Snow separate)

Fried Chicken Tender

Soy Spring Onion Tenders (Spring Onion Sauce separate)

Spring Onion Sauce

Coleslaw

Pickled Radish

Popcorn Shrimp

Dumplings

Curly Fries

We ordered quite a spread, and everything was really good. The different types of chicken were all so flavorful (my fave was the Soy Spring Onion Tenders).  The wings were crispy and I enjoyed trying the different sauces and toppings.

The sides were great too.  Curly Fries and Korean Fried Chicken seem to pair well together.  The Dumplings were a nice surprise from the team.

I learned that Pickled Radish is a standard accompaniment for Korean Fried Chicken.

I'd definitely order from CM Chicken again - delicious eats and friendly service!

Vons Chicken - Waimalu

I'm so late to the Vons Chicken game, but I finally tried the popular KFC, and I wasn't disappointed!

Shoyu

Regular

Garlic

Honey
The chicken was nice and crispy on the outside, and very flavorful!  My fave was the regular, with the Shoyu a close second.

Mandoo
I thought the mandoo was just okay, and the servings of fries were quite generous!  The Snow fries consisted of fries topped with cheese and onion powder.  Quite an interesting combo!
Regular Fries

Snow Fries

I'd definitely order chicken from Vons again!

Call in your order if you can to minimize wait time (if the line is busy or no one picks up, just keep trying).

Kickin Chick'n

Kickin Chick'n in Ka Makana Ali`i offers Korean Style chicken and street food.

Da Mix Dog

Sausage and Rice Cakes

Sweet Potato Fries

Curly Fries

Crispy Fried Chicken

The chicken was very tasty, and although not too crispy (probably because they got soggy on the drive home), I still thought they were good.

The kids loved Da Mix (sausage and cheese on a stick), and the Sausage and Rice Cakes were really yummy!

I love sidewinders, so I thought the Curly Fries were delish.

I would definitely want to try other flavors of the chicken next time!
