Da Coop - Now Open at Klipper Golf Course

The eatery at Klipper Golf Course at Marine Corp Base Hawaii has a new name, a new menu, and a new look.  It's now called "Da Coop", featuring the finest cripy chicken and other local favorites.

Da Coop has both indoor and outdoor dining areas.  The indoor seating area has been remodeled and has brand new socially distanced tables and chairs.

We came for an early dinner and ordered the kid's combos for the boys, a Chicken & Waffle, and a Tender Basket combo meal. All combos and items on the Chicken Favorites menu (like the Chicken & Waffle) comes with waffle fries and a fountain drink.

Kids' combo (2 pcs of tenders, waffle fries, keiki fountain drink,
dippin' sauce, and a Hawaiian sweet roll)

Tender Basket (3 pc tenders, waffle fries, Hawaiian sweet roll,
dipping sauce, and fountain drink)

Chicken & Waffle

The chicken tenders, made with chicken breast, were really moist and tender.  The dipping sauce is house-made, very creamy with a hint of spiciness.  It goes great with the chicken tenders and the waffle fries.

The waffle fries were good (they stayed crispy throughout our meal), but the boys and I really liked the waffle.  In fact we ended up ordering another waffle ala carte.  Every waffle is made to order.

Open to Active Duty, Retirees, Dependents, DoD Civilians & Sponsored Guests.

Hours: Daily from 0630 to 1800.

Kahuna's Sports Bar & Grill Revisited

The boys and I had the day off from school/work on Monday since it was a state holiday, so we decided to have lunch at Kahuna's Sports Bar & Grill at the Marine Corp Base Hawaii.

We got to sample a couple of new menu items - the "it's greek to me" salad, a good option for those looking for something healthy, so long as you ask for the dressing on the side.

Another new menu item we got to try was the beef quesadilla burger. Apparently quesadillas are a popular menu item at Kahuna's, so the manager thought it would be fun to try it with a hamburger, instead of the usual chicken. Very innovative!

For my lunch I ordered my usual - Mushroom Swiss burger. It never disappoints.

The twins usually never want to eat the same thing, so one ordered the mac n cheese with mandarin oranges.

The other one ordered chicken strips with french fries.

$7 Burger & Fries at Kahuna's Sports Bar & Grill

At Kahuna's Sports Bar & Grill at Marine Corp Base Hawaii, every Wednesday you can get a burger and fries combo for only $7!

There are six burgers to choose from, and they all sound amazing.

I tried the Mushroom and Swiss - delicious and filling.

You have the option of adding another patty for just $3 more.

Kahuna's uses potato rolls for their hamburgers buns - it's so soft and practically melts in your mouth.

If burgers aren't your thing, you can still order off their regular menu, like this classic caesar salad w/chicken.

The view from the Officers' Club

The Build Your Own dining trend is hot right now, and at Marine Corp Base Hawaii's Officers' Club on the windward side of Hawaii, you can build your own stir fry during their Mongolian BBQ nights, every Wednesday and Friday evenings.

Grab a bowl at the start of the line, and fill it to your heart's content with assorted vegetables and proteins:

Present your bowl to the cashier.  You are charged by the ounce.  Then proceed to the sauce station and add your sauces:

Now it's time to take your masterpiece to the chef who will stir fry your meal before your very eyes.
