et. al.

I’ve enjoyed et al. a couple of times with friends in the past, but this was the first visit with my husband and sons—and it did not disappoint! We headed there for an early dinner and were just in time to take advantage of their Pau Hana menu, which made the evening feel like an even better treat.

From the Pau Hana menu, we ordered the arancinifried chicken, and sliders.Everything was hot, flavorful, and just the right size for snacking while we looked over the main menu.

For our main dishes, we had a mix that truly showed how et al. offers something for everyone. We ordered the tagliatelle pasta, the lobster roll, the garlic chicken and mochi waffles, and a cheese pizza from the keiki menu.

Unanimously, the garlic chicken and waffles stole the show—it was crispy, savory, a little sweet from the waffles, and just all-around satisfying. But honestly, everything we tried was delicious and well-executed. It's always a win when the whole family leaves full and happy.

What makes et al. even better is its location inside Kahala Market—so after dinner, we took a quick stroll through the market and knocked out some food shopping!

Dinner at et al.

Lobster Roll

Restaurant et al. has remained a favorite of mine so I was happy to have dinner there last month. Located inside KAHALA MKT. by Foodland, et al. features a seasonal menu with brunch, dinner, and pau hana offerings. The name means “and others” in Latin which the restaurant translates to mean a gathering place of community, friends, family and others.

Our group was seated comfortably at a large table and the service was wonderful from start to finish. I opted for a glass of prosecco, but the signature and classic cocktails on the drink menu looked like a lot of fun. The dinner offerings range in variety from classics like a burger and ribeye to the creative like bulgogi pizza; which I ordered and loved!

Brunch at et al. Inside the Kahala MKT

Garlic chicken and mochi waffle with soy maple and black sesame butter

When my extended family gets together to celebrate a special occasion, we have a few musts: ample parking, good food, and preferably a kids' menu.  All those boxes were checked when we chose to brunch at et al. inside the Kahala MKT.

Not only was the food good, the service was great as well.  Anyone that can keep smiling when 3 glasses of water are spilled over the course of the meal is a real hero in my book. Thank you for that!

I had the Mexican Street Avo Toast which I really enjoyed and both my kids ordered the Garlic Chicken and Mochi Waffle which is a must have on the menu.  They continued to talk about how great it was all weekend.  My sister had the Lobster Roll which she said was good, but lacked flavor so she had some of my mom's Hamukua Mushroom Risotto, which turned out to be a tastier dish.

Mexican street avo toast, chili lime crema, cotija cheese, cilantro, baby corn

Chocolate Macadamia Tart with complimentary scoop of gelato for birthday girl.

Brunch is served Saturday and Sunday from 7am to 2pm.

Hot Pot Broth and Nabe Kit by Foodland - Kahala Mkt

Disclosure: through the Foodland Ambassador Program, I received a complimentary gift card to purchase the products featured in this post.

Now that we're into the "cooler" months in Hawaii, it's the perfect time to make hot pot at home.  Kahala Mkt. by Foodland makes hot pot prep easy with its house-made Hot Pot Broth and Nabe Kits.

The Hot Pot Broth comes in a 32 ounce glass mason jar that is spill-proof and also reusable!

The Nabe Kit comes with a generous variety of vegetables and glass noodles. Because I like meat in my hot pot, I purchased an additional tray of thinly sliced prime rib shabu shabu meat.

I was too lazy to set up my electric nabe pot, so I prepared the nabe on the stove in a regular pot. First I added the broth to the pot (I used half the bottle and added water to stretch it out) and brought it to a boil, and then I added the vegetables from the Nabe Kit, and tofu that I had in my refrigrator (an excellent non-meat protein source!).  When it looked like the vegetables were cooked, I added the noodles and meat, since those two items cook the quickest.

It's important not to overcook the meat, because it gets tough, so once the pinkness in the meat disappeared, I removed the meat from the nabe and set it on the side.

This hot pot meal was large enough for the hubby and I to share, and I still have half a bottle of hot pot broth to use for our next hot pot meal.  I can also use it as a broth for udon, ramen, or use it as a seasoning for stir-fry!

On a side note, while shopping for the Hot Pot Broth and Nabe Kit at Kahala Mkt, I also picked up some fresh cut fruit (my sons love their fruit!), a slice of Pumpkin Crunch Pie (made by Foodland), Tate's Chocoalte Chip Cookies, and Milk Bar Chocolate Confetti Cookies!

It's All Rice at Kahala MKT

Through the month of August, Kahala MKT is celebrating RICE with a variety of rice products from Hawaii and abroad.  In addition to retail rice items, Kahala MKT is also featuring a few rice dishes from the hot bar (assorted made to order rice bowls, grab n go musubis) and poke bar (the rainbow chirashi bowl - featured below). Et Al, the restaurant in Kahala MKT, is also featuring a few rice dishes and sake pairings for a limited time. You can find 5 "easy-to-follow" recipes for tasty rice dishes using ingredients that are available in the store. On top of all this, receive a Kahala MKT rice paddle free when you spend $75 or more through August 17 or while supplies last.

For more information, go to: www.kahalamkt.com/rice.

As a Kahala MKT ambassador, I get invitations from Kahala MKT to check out their products and offerings. Sometimes they give us a bag of pre-selected goodies to try, and sometimes they gift us gift cards to purchase items to try.  For this month, they gave us a gift card to purchase ingredients to make one of their rice-based recipes, so since I had to go to the MKT to pick up my gift card, I decided to pick up some ingredients for my rice dish and also picked up some of their new rice offerings/products.
