Apple Pie Bread Pudding Recipe

Tasty on Buzzfeed has taken the internet by storm. Thanks to their 30-70 second cooking and baking videos, people across the country and the world are spending more time in their kitchens trying out the recipes they see on their Facebook and Instagram feeds.
Tasty makes each recipe look so delicious, and easy to make. I've made a few of their recipes, and not all are as easy as it looks, but today I'll share with you one particular recipe that was as easy as it looked, and it received two thumbs up from my friends who were my guinea pigs.

The recipe is called "Apple Pie Bread Pudding", and it's basically bread pudding topped with what you'd normally find in an apple pie.  For pie crusts enthusiasts, you'd be sorely disappointed since there is no pie crust in this dessert.
The bottom bread pudding layer consists of a mixture of 6 slices of white bread (cubed), eggs, vanilla extract, milk, and cinnamon.

The top layer is a mixture of granny smith apples (peeled and cubed), brown sugar, and cornstarch.  That's it!

I modified this recipe by adding about 1/4 cup of butter right before baking.  I had also planned to throw raisins into the bread pudding layer but I forgot! Ack.

50 minutes later, it's done! Slap a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top and you've got a dessert that serves 6 people.

Bread Pudding Recipe

It wasn't until a few years ago that I became fond of bread pudding.  I can't remember the first time I actually tried bread pudding, but once I did, I became a fan, and couldn't believe how yummy it was!

I often order bread pudding at restaurants for desserts, and I decided to try and make my own using this recipe from Allrecipes.com.

It was a cinch to make, and it turned out delicious.

And it was even better when topped with some vanilla ice cream!

Bread Pudding (recipe adapted from Allrecipes.com)

Ingredients:
  • 6 slices day-old bread (I used French bread)
  • 2 T butter, melted
  • 1/2 c raisins
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 2 c milk
  • 3/4 c w sugar
  • 1 t ground cinnamon
  • 1 vanilla extract
Directions:
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
  • Break bread into small pieces and place in prepared 8 inch square baking pan.
  • Drizzle melted butter over bread.
  • Sprinkle with raisins.
  • In a medium bowl, combine eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla; beat until well combined.
  • Pour mixture over bread, ensuring all bread is covered in mixture.
  • Bake for 45 minutes.
