Special Occasion Cakes at Pua Cake Studio

For my daughter’s 18th birthday, I wanted her to have a custom special occasion cake. I
needed a place that was convenient to my home in Mililani and I wanted it to be
delicious too. I immediately thought of Pua Cake Studio located in Wahiawa and went to
the website.

They have everything online including flavors, pricing, ready-made cakes and cupcakes,
and a price inquiry form. I found it super easy to order. Once I requested a quote, they
replied quickly with the price and availability. I was able to pay online and I was set.
The four layer six- inch vanilla cake we ordered was beautifully decorated based on the
inspo pictures I had sent. My daughter LOVED it! It was so delicious, I had two slices. I
had a great experience ordering from Pua Cake Studio.

Via Gelato's Donut Cakes

My friends surprised me with a Via Gelato x Little Vessels donut gelato cake for my birthday and it was absolutely delicious.  If you haven't tried one yet, you are in luck because Via Gelato just announced today they are extending their sale of donut gelato cakes!

New pickup dates added are: Aug. 28-29, Sept. 4-5, Sept. 11-12,  Sept. 18-19, and Sept. 25-26.  There are only 30 Donut Gelato Cakes available each weekend so order yours soon.  

The cakes are limited and must be ordered minimum 4 days in advance to weekend only pick ups.  Because the donuts are vegan, it's possible for you to get a Vegan Donut Gelato Cake.  

For regular gelato cakes, you'll need to order a minimum of 48 hours in advance.  You can choose from Via Gelato's menu of cakes or custom order.  

All gelato cakes come with a fun DIY activity where you get to decorate the top with whipped cream and your choice of 2 toppings. Vegan cakes come with coconut whipped cream and choice of 2 vegan toppings.

Sugar Coated Hawaii Custom Birthday Cake

For my daughter's 9th birthday party, we were planning a bounce house party at our home.  Because the party was at our house, I didn't want to go very far to pick up the cake or the food.  Lucky for me, Sugar Coated Hawaii bakery is literally a minute away located near Domino's in The Gateway at Mililani Mauka.  

Once my daughter decided on a cupcake theme for her party, she began sketching her dream birthday cake.  I sent the image to the bakery and we talked over some details.  I personally don't like fondant and requested the cake to be made with frosting.  When I brought the cake home, my daughter's eyes instantly lit up and she was over the moon to see her idea come to life. 

   

A few tweaks were made to the cake after her sketch.

Lime Jello Cake

For my husband's 40th birthday, he requested a lime jello cake - a cake he enjoyed eating as a child.  The recipe credits the Honolulu UE Club.  Our daughter had the best time baking the special cake for her father.

She started with mixing together:  1 box Duncan Hines yellow cake mix, 1 box lime jello, 3/4 cup oil, 4 eggs, and 1 cup water.  She then mixed on high for about 3 minutes.  She baked the cake in a greased 9x13 pan at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.  Baking time will depend on your oven.  We overbaked our cake. 

Let your cake cool for about 15 minutes before spreading on the glaze.  For the glaze, you need to mix 1 cup powdered sugar with the juice of 1 lemon.  Using a fork, poke holes in the cake to let the glaze sink in.
