Treat Mom to a Special Mother's Day Dinner at Alan Wong's Honolulu

Mother's Day is just a few days away, and if you want to treat your mom (or yourself!) to a fabulous dining experience, look no further than Alan Wong's Honolulu.

I had the privlege of previewing the Mother's Day Special Menu.  On May 13, a Prix Fixe menu will be offered for $95 per person ($140 per person with wine pairing).

The menu consists of:

"Soup and Sandwich" - Chilled Tomato Soup, Grilled Foie Gras, Kalua Pig, Mozarella Cheese Sandwich

2nd Course Choices:
Keahole Lobster and Shrimp Lasagna

Seafood Dumpling

 3rd Course Choices:
Ginger Crusted Onaga
Fresh Island Fish with Grilled Shrimp

 4th Course Choices:
Twice Cooked Short Rib, Braised and Grilled "Kalbi Style"

Ribeye Steak

Dessert Choices:
The Coconut

Waialua Chocolate "Crunch Bars"
It was an amazing meal from start to finish. The entire menu is full of dishes inspired by our ethnically diverse state, combining cuisines from around the world with locally-sourced ingredients.

I absolutely loved the elevated "Soup and Sandwich" starter.  There's just something so classic and comforting about tomato soup and grilled cheese.

The Keahole Lobster and Shrimp Lasagna was hearty and stuffed to the brim with huge pieces of shrimp and lobster, and the Seafood Dumpling was slightly spicy, but very delicious.

The Ginger Crusted Onaga, one of Alan Wong's Honolulu's signature dishes, did not disappoint, and the Fresh Island Fish with Grilled Shrimp was just bursting with flavor.

The Ribeye was tender and juicy, and my favorite dish of the entire meal, the Twice Cooked Short Rib, Soy Braised and Grilled "Kalbi" Style, was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and simply amazing.

There's no doubt that you will be indulging in a lot of fabulous food for the first four courses, but you will want to make sure you save room for dessert.

"The Coconut" is a chocolate shell full of haupia sorbet, accompanied by fruits drizzled in a Hanaoka Farm lilikoi sauce. So refreshing! The Waialua Chocolate "Crunch Bars" were decadent and delightful - sure to please any chocolate lover!

Wedding Anniversary Dinner at Alan Wong's

Alan Wong's is one of the top restaurants for celebrating a special occasion.  We saw this personally as we dined there on a very busy Tuesday night in celebration of our 13th wedding anniversary and were among many diners celebrating birthdays and other special occasions.

During our entire dining experience, service was on point and quite exceptional.  Their drink menu was extensive and presented on an ipad.  Chef de cuisine Miya Nishimura offers two different tasting menus in addition to the ala carte menu.  My husband ordered the ciopinno while I opted for my favorite -  the ginger crusted onaga.  Both entrees are served with your option of white or brown rice or mashed potatoes.

City view.

Poke tacos.

Ginger Crusted Onaga.

Ciopinno.

We both loved our meals, but my husband conceded that the ginger crusted onaga was the clear winner of the two.  I love the texture of the crust and the sauce pairs so well with the corn.  You must try it!

Since we were out on a school night, we decided to skip dessert, but our server was so thoughtful and brought out a special dessert for us.  An excellent end to a delicious meal.

A delicious s'mores dessert.

Alan Wong's is open daily for dinner.  Valet parking is available for a fee of $5.

Celebrate the Holidays at Alan Wong's

L-R: an array of cocktails; chopped ahi sashimi and avocado salsa stack; roasted beet salad; pork and shrimp hash dumplings; cheese platter; caesar salad; goat cheese salad; seafood cakes; poki-pines (won ton wrapped ahi poke balls).

The popular Alan Wong's restaurant held a media tasting lunch yesterday that I was lucky enough to attend.  Pictures of the beautifully plated dishes most likely flooded your Instagram feed.  But, if you've never dined at the restaurant or aren't already following @alanwongs, your eyes are in for a treat.

My favorite dish is the ginger crusted onaga, but a taste of the shrimp and clams linguine had my tastebuds begging for more!  The five spice kurobuta marinated pork loin was equally tantalizing and now I know I'm going to have a hard decision next time I dine at Alan Wong's.

L-R: ginger crusted onaga; shrimp and clams linguine; pan steamed opakapaka; twice cooked short rib; and five spice kurobuta marinated pork loin.

The desserts are equally gorgeous!  The signature "The Coconut" (haupia sorbet in the chocolate shell) is not only picture perfect, but an amazing desseert.  My other favorite was the Hawaiian Crown Sweet Gold Pineapple "Shave Ice" with the yummiest vanilla panna cotta and coconut tapioca topped with shaved pineapple!

L-R: the coconut; pineapple shave ice; strawberry cheesecake; banana cream pie; and hanaoka lilikoi semifreddo.

Make your holiday season extra special by dining at Alan Wong's!  New holiday menus are available for December 24 and 25.

New Menu Items at the Pineapple Room by Alan Wong!

Alan Wong's Yuzu Soda!  Other flavors include Watermelon, Lilikoi, and Blueberry!

I am a big fan of The Pineapple Room by Alan Wong located on the third floor inside Macy's at the Ala Moana Shopping Center.  I'm also a huge fan of breakfast so I was very excited to attend the media preview of the Pineapple Room's new menu items for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

Breakfast will be served only on the weekends, but all the choices on the menu for lunch and dinner had my head spinning...in a good way!  I love that at the Pineapple Room you can get whatever you're in the mood for; whether it's a juicy grass fed beef burger or something a little more refined like the New Zealand Furikake crusted salmon served with ochazuke risotto.  Everything here is delicious!

Just a sampling of the beautiful dishes!

L-R: "Wong Way" Bloody Mary with ume paste, li hing mui, and wasabi rim; the "Pan Cakes" seen here in Pineapple Upside Down is also available in Banana Upside Down; "The Bees Knees"  generous slab of cream cheese on the yummiest toasted scones and topped with sliced almonds, candied pecans, macadamia nuts, dried cranberries, granola, big island honey drizzle and Hawaii Island Dairy goat cheese crumbles; and Big G's Taco Omelet.

Some starters from L-R: "Da Poi Cup" Hanalei Poi, kalua pig, and lomi tomatoes; Asian Salad; Ho Farms Tomato & Watermelon Salad; and Sashimi Ahi Avocado Salad.  Is your mouth watering yet?

Ahh, the entrees!  L-R:  "Loco Moco" Makaweli Kaua'i beef hamburger patty, fried rice, two Peterson farm eggs, veal jus; Kuahiwi Ranch teriyaki burger with housemade kim chee; Tempura battered fresh island monchong with tsuyu dipping sauce; Chinese Style Steamed Opakapaka; Hoisin Sriracha glazed short ribs (so tender!); New Zealand Furikake Crusted Salmon; Kiawe Grilled Kalbi shortribs; Pineapple Room Burger; and Nori crusted rare Ahi.  Bring lots of people so you can try everything on the menu!

Hope you saved room for dessert!  L-R:  Kula Strawberry Tiramisu; Housemade Malasadas in your choice of Lilikoi, Dobash, or Haupia; A Pineapple Room classic:  Haupia Tapioca "Halo Halo" served with fresh fruits, sweet corn, azuki beans, and coconut shave ice (YUM!); and Waialua chocolate brownie a la mode.
