Visit Hong Kong: Mong Kok Night Market

One evening in Hong Kong we decided to check out the Mong Kok Night Market.  There you'll find a lot of street food kiosks as well as a section known as the Ladies' Market, where you can buy souvenirs, clothing, art, accessories, and more.
We ended up not getting any food, but we did buy some souvenirs and toys.

Haggling is expected, but I'm not a haggler by any means.  When the lady from whom my son wanted to buy an anime toy from told me it was $550HKD, I looked up the conversion on my phone ($70USD) and told my son we have to pass.  I wasn't about to pay $70 for something I could probably get on Amazon for about $20.

I told her "no thank you," then she immediately said $120HKD ($15USD), so I bought it.

I was pretty shocked at how high the initial price was and how quickly she lowered the price to get a sale, but the experience revealed a lot to me about the night market.

I'm sure I could've gotten the price lowered more, but I was happy to pay the $15 - no active haggling needed.

Visit Seoul: Myeongdong Night Market

Night markets are a must-experience while in South Korea.  A popular one is the Myeongdong Night Market.  The first night we attempted to go to the Myeongdong Night Market, it was raining, and just a handful of stalls were out.

A visitors guide told us that the rain deterred a lot of the stall owners, and suggested we go to Gwangjang Market instead, since it was covered.

The second time we went to Myeongdong Night Market, we were actually just passing through (it was so close to our hotel).

The weather was nice, and we saw stall after stall of savory foods on a stick - lamb, sausage, rice cake, and more.

We ended up buying a couple of sweet treats:
Mochi

Dragon Beard's Candy

The Myeongdong Night Market takes place nightly, weather permitting.  The vendors start setting it up in the later afternoon / early evening, and are out until late.
