Visit Hilo: Lehua Restaurant

Just opened in Hilo is Lehua Restaurant, from the team behind Napua at Mauna Lani Beach club.

At Lehua Restaurant, you'll find local faves, big portions, and even a kids menu!

Calamari
A Calamari steak was prepared katsu-style, and served with a tomato poke and a yuzu sweet chili sauce.  I don't care for calamari, but this was one of the best calamari dishes I've ever had!  The calamari was really tender, and I loved the furikake coating!

Tinono
This Filipino dish, Chef Keoni's grandmother's recipe, was one of my faves of the night.  Kaunamano Farms pork was marinated for 3 days, and it was served with classic Tinono elements.  The dish reminded me of being in my grandparents' kitchen.  I honestly would've been happy with just a bowl of rice and the flavorful sauce (which my friend asked a spoon for to drink) - it was that good!

Tagliatelle
I ordered the Tagliatelle with Chicken (for extra),   It was such a huge serving (I barely made a dent in it), and I loved the big slices of mushrooms incorporated throughout.  The chicken was tender and juicy!

Rib Eye Steak

Kulolo Lumpia
After asking our server her recommendation for dessert, she said the Kulolo Lumpia is her fave.

I did enjoy it, along with the accompanying ice cream, but to my surprise, I loved the Fried Haupia, which the team generously gifted us.

Fried Haupia

I'm not a haupia or an ube fan, but this dessert was so delicious!  The silky smooth haupia and the crunchy coconut coating, along with the ube sauce - it all worked seamlessly!  Even my friend, who is not a dessert person, was just blown away by how good this dessert was.  Highly recommend!

Service was excellent, and some of the best I've had anywhere (in the world!).

Lehua Restaurant is a welcome addition to the Hilo food scene, and I look forward to returning!
