Visit Hilo: Moon & Turtle

Moon & Turtle is one of my favorite spots in Hilo.  Not only is the food fabulous, but owners Mark & Soni Pomaski are just the kindest people I've ever met!
Mushroom Risotto

Crispy Ahi Sinew

Goat Cheese & Persimmon Bruschetta

Garlic Butter Belly

Portuguese Sausage Putanessca
Dishes are served family-style at Moon & Turtle, but if I had my choice, I would've eaten the Risotto and Putanessca all by myself.

The creamy risotto included both Hamakua and shiitake mushrooms; and housemade papardelle, Kulana Portuguese sausage, anchovies, capers, olives, Hawaiian chili, and tomatoes all combined amazingly together for a hearty, and slightly spicy Puttanesca.

I'm not much of a goat cheese fan, but I wanted to eat both pieces of the Goat Cheese + Persimmon Bruschetta.  Loved the tart and sweet combo of flavors!

The Garlic Butter Belly was as delicious as it sounded, and the Crispy Ahi Sinew was a first for me - I didn't even know there was such a thing, but it was delicious, and one of Chef Mark's favorite things to eat.

Soni's cocktails are a must if you visit, and no matter what you order to eat or drink, I'm confident you'll leave feeling Moon & Turtle content.
