Hilo Day Trip Recap

In February Nadia and I flew on Hawaiian Airlines for a day trip to Hilo.  We truly love Hawaiian Airlines - we both fly multiple times a year on Hawaiian Airlines not only interisland, but to various cities throughout the US and to other countries.

We were excited to partner with our favorite airline on our trip to Hilo.

We had an on-time departure out of Honolulu and landed in rainy Hilo, but we still managed to make 13 stops, and the rain did not deter us from a hike!

As expected, we made a couple of impromptu stops, and because of reasons beyond our control (e.g. closed down shop or busy restaurant), we had to look for alternative places to visit, but we managed to accomplish a lot in less than 10 hours!

Our stops included:

1) Sweets at Hilo Bake Company
2) Munchies at Kawamoto Store
3) Coffee at Just Cruisin' Coffee
4) Hike at Pu`u`o`o Trail
5) Ramen at Restaurant Kenichi
6) Beef Jerky at George's Meat Market
7) Paletas at Pandamonia's Paletas
8) Chips at Hawaii Island Gourmet Products
9) Mochi at Two Ladies Kitchen
10) Tour at OK Farms
11) Omiyage at KTA Super Stores
12) More sweets at Magic Pineapple Shack (formerly Big Island Juice Co.)
13) Drinks and pupus with friends at Hilo Bay Cafe

We did a lot of eating, and a lot of omiyage shopping, so it was necessary for us to get some hiking in!

The highlight for both of us was the tour at OK Farms.

And the people in Hilo are just the nicest.  From the sweet staff at Hilo Bake Company and the friendly employees at Kawamoto Store, to our awesome tour guide at OK Farms, and our friends who met us for our last stop at Hilo Bay Cafe.

It was a long day, that was made a bit longer because of a flight delay, but Hawaiian Airlines quickly and safely turned the plane around, and we were on our way back home after another fun day trip.

Next stop - Hana (via Kahului on Hawaiian Airlines, of course!)!

Mahalo to Hawaiian Airlines! Hawaiian Airlines is the world’s most punctual airline as reported by OAG, and is Hawai‘i’s biggest and longest-serving airline. Hawaiian offers non-stop service to Hawai‘i from more U.S. gateway cities (11) than any other airline, along with service from Japan, South Korea, China, Australia, New Zealand, American Samoa and Tahiti. Hawaiian also provides approximately 170 jet flights daily between the Hawaiian Islands, with a total of more than 250 daily flights system-wide. Visit the Hawaiian Airlines website to book your next flight!
