Teruya's Andagi

Teruya's Andagi, that used to be in the old Shirokiya at Ala Moana Center, is now open in a small space next to Von's Chicken on Pensacola Street.

According to an article in Pacific Business News, the owner was originally planing to re-open in Shirokiya's new Japan Village Walk, but he decided not to, and I'm so glad he made that choice.  This location is much easier to get in and out of, and prices are reasonable since this is not a high rent district like Ala Moana Center.

Teruya's is very small, consisting of a small counter where you place your order and pay for your items.

Most people come here for take out, although if you wish to eat your food here, they a few seats on the counter by the window.

The menu is small and simple. A few bentos, donburis, snacks and sweets.

Some of the bentos and sides are pre-packaged and on display next to the counter.

If you don't see what you're looking for, just order it and they'll make it for you in minutes.

My favorite item from Teruya's is their shrimp tempura roll. The sauce that they dip the tempura in after frying is so delicious.

Of course the andagi is must-have.

There is one guy taking orders and two ladies behind him assembling rolls and bentos, therefore don't be surprised if there is a line out the door during the lunch hour.

Call ahead for large orders.

Metered street parking only.
