El Charro Mexicano

Over the weekend we went to El Charro Mexicano in Aiea for an early lunch.

The last time I went there was a few years ago when I met Nat for dinner, as she was on a mission to help me find a new favorite Mexican restaurant.  Although El Charro did not (and is still not) my fave, our family still had a nice meal there.

El Charro Burrito

Kids Crispy Ground Beef Taco
The first thing I noticed was how pricey the menu items were.  Kids meals averaged $9, and did not include a drink.  Thankfully, breakfast options were available, and two of my kids ordered a regular stack of chocolate chip pancakes at just $4.50 per order.

I ordered the Shredded Chicken Chimichanga.  It's topped with an El Charro Sauce, which I still have mixed feelings about.  It's tasty, but it seems to make the chimichanga soggy, and I missed that crunch of the chimichanga.  It was, however, a huge serving, and the accompanying beans and rice were yummy as well.

My husband ordered the El Charro burrito, which consisted of shredded chicken, rice, beans, and cheese.

At the end of the meal, one of the employees gave us this piece of candy for my kids to try, however, she did warn us to have water on standby since it's spicy.

As of this writing they have yet to try it - I'm kind of scared to try it myself!

I thought it was a very sweet gesture!

Service was on the slow side, but thankfully our server was very pleasant, and all of the employees in the entire restaurant were all so friendly.

Although the I've had better Chimichangas elsewhere, I definitely want to go back to try out some of the breakfast items!
