Aunty's Breakfast Celebration Buffet at Makahiki

During our staycation at Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, we knew we had to dine at Aunty's Breakfast Celebration Buffet at Makahiki so we could see Mickey & friends.

We had reservations for 7am, which is when Makahiki opens, and when we got to the restaurant 10 minutes before there was already a short line.

People with reservations were ushered into a separate line, and all guests eventually lined up in a queue to take photos with Mickey Mouse, where the Cast Members were awesome - they asked for various poses and if anyone wanted to take photos with their personal cameras - they really wanted to make sure every party got at least one good shot.

Then we had to go back to the front desk and wait a few more minutes to actually be seated.

By the time we actually got seated it was 7:20am!

Our server quickly got our drink orders, and then off to the buffet line we went.

I loved that there was a great variety of food options to choose from.  There were staples like Bacon, Eggs, and Fried Rice, specialties such as Kalua Pork Hash and Guava, Lilikoi, and Mustard Glazed Ham, as well as Japanese dishes, such as Nishime and Miso Soup. There was also a Keiki Corner with Mickey Waffles, Tater Tots, and Cereal, as well as an Omelet Station.

Aunty went around to "talk story" with guests, and Goofy and Minnie Mouse went to each table to take photos.

Most of the Cast Members we encountered were full of aloha, and overall, I thought the Breakfast Buffet at Makahiki was great - it's always fun to dine with Mickey and the gang!

  1. When making a reservation check with the rep what characters will be available for photos during breakfast. We went assuming it would be Mickey and Minnie however it ended up being Donald at the front for photos and during breakfast the characters walking around were Stitch and Chip & Dale. We WERE able to get our photo with Mickey and Minnie after walking around the resort for a while, but even then we "lucked out" because the characters aren't always available at any given moment.
