Visit Portland: Red Lion Hotel on the River - Jantzen Beach

It wasn't until three years ago that I first heard about Red Lion Hotels, and ever since it's a brand I've grown to trust.

To me, Red Lion Hotels is synonymous with great service, clean and comfortable rooms, and numerous amenities, which is why our family decided to stay at the Red Lion Hotel on the River - Jantzen Beach in Portland, Oregon, which is located just 15 minutes away from Portland International Airport with easy access to I5 and numerous shops.

Check-In
As we drove up to the Red Lion on the River - Jantzen Beach, my first impression was that it was a HUGE hotel (4 wings with 320 guest rooms and suites), but the exterior looked a bit dated. However, once I stepped into the lobby I was very impressed with the fresh, modern interior (and would soon find out the rooms would be just as fresh and modern).

Check-in was quick and friendly.

As a Red Lion R&R Club Member I received a couple of bottles of complimentary water, and we were directed to our hosted room.

Room
We stayed in a Premium 2 Queen Beds Non Smoking Room which overlooked the pool, and we had a nice view of the Columbia River.

The room itself was spacious and clean, and the plush pillow top beds were SO comfortable.

I thought the flat-screen TV was a bit small for the room, but it sufficed, and I loved that there was a large work desk, as well as a microwave, refrigerator, and coffee maker.

I thought it was great that the hotel offered eco-friendly bath amenities as well as a bin for recyclables.   I also really liked that there were two sinks in the room.

Occasionally we could hear the sounds of airplanes or trains late at night or early in the morning, but any noise, even from other guests, was minimal.

Dining
Although I was a bit disappointed that the hotel no longer offers the Roaring Start Breakfast Buffet, Jantzen Beach Bar & Grill, the on-site restaurant, does offer a breakfast menu with great options.

Not only was the food good, but the service was great, the prices were very reasonable, and the view was absolutely stunning!
