AN ELEVATED TSUKIMAKI OMAKASE IS UNEARTHED AT TRUFFLE-CENTRIC MARGOTTO HAWAII

Truffle-centric Margotto Hawaii announces a five-weekend pop-up with temaki, or hand roll, sushi chef Angie Lee of Tsukimaki. For just 10 nights from June 23 to July 29 excluding July 21 and 22, Chef Lee will be serving an 11-course omakase dinner comprised of appetizers, hand roll sushi, and more at Margotto Hawaii’s Champagne Counter for $160 per person plus tax and gratuity, with an optional wine pairing for $125 or sake sold by the glass or bottle.

After serving her artisanal hand roll omakase at the now shuttered Upstairs Waikiki, at the sushi counter fronting Artizen by MW, and at Hakkoku, the restaurant in Ginza where Lee first interned, Japan-trained sushi chef Angie Lee is ready to elevate her approach with the infusion of truffles, among other innovations. Her omakase will be comprised of a succession of appetizers, five hand rolls, one oshizushi or pressed sushi, a chilled chawanmushi, soup, and some dessert. Tasmanian winter black truffles may be incorporated into some of the presentations for a market price supplement. Chef Lee will be crafting her brand of sushi on each of the Friday and Saturday evenings between June 23 to July 29, with the exception of July 21 and 22. Reservations will be extremely limited, as there will be only two seatings per evening—one at 5:00 p.m. and another at 7:15 p.m.—with each turn accommodating up to just six people.

“We are excited to have Angie Lee join our restaurant with her style of hand roll omakase,” discloses Kazutomo “Robert” Hori, owner of Margotto Hawaii. “We have an inordinate amount of respect for her as a female chef in a male-dominated industry because she took the initiative to study sushi at the Tokyo Sushi Academy before training at several upscale sushi establishments in Japan, all prior to moving to Hawaii where she further studied under Keiji Nakazawa at Sushi Sho. I am confident that Chef Kenta Kayama and Chef Angie Lee will inspire each other as they strive to evolve the worldwide-trending hand rolls to the next level, while seamlessly integrating truffles in some perspectives.”

The winner of Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s 'Ilima Award for Best New Restaurant - 2022, HAWAII Magazine’s 2023 Readers’ Choice Awards Top 5, OpenTable’s Diner’s Choice 2022, and USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Best Restaurant in Hawaii 2023, Margotto Hawaii is located at 514 Piikoi Street, between Ichiriki and El Burrito. The restaurant is open Thursday through Tuesday, from 5:00 to 10:30 p.m. A few parking stalls are available adjacent to the restaurant, with street parking conveniently located nearby. Attire is resort casual, with shirt and footwear required.

Reservations are available on OpenTable. For more information, visit the website at https://www.margotto-hawaii.com, or call (808) 592-8500
