Visit Alabama: Wintzell's Oyster House

While in Alabama, we went to Wintzell's Oyster House.  We searched online and saw that it was one of the iconic places to try in Mobile, so even with a 30-minute wait upon check-in, we didn't mind.
Wintzell's sayings are plastered all throughout the restaurant

It actually turned out to be an hour wait, but we did spend some time exploring downtown while we waited, so the wait wasn't all that bad.

Fried Wild-Caught Oysters

Award-Winning Seafood Gumbo

Blackened Chicken Alfredo

Fried Green Tomatoes

Fried Dill Pickles

French Fries

It sure was a lot of fried food!  I did order the West Indies salad, a popular Alabama dish, but they had run out of it.

I did enjoy everything, but I thought the Fried Green Tomatoes, served with a Crawfish Sauce, was just okay (I thought they were underseasoned).

I did love the Award-Winning Seafood Gumbo (dubbed as Alabama's most award-winning Gumbo), which consisted of shrimp, crawfish, crabmeet, okra, and tomatoes.  It was bursting with flavors and I regret not ordering a bowl instead of a cup.

The Fried Dill Pickles were addicting, and the Fried Crab Claws are a new fave!  What a fun way to eat crab!  The Blackened Chicken Alfredo was delicious as well.

Service was great, and we had a really nice dinner full of Southern faves at Wintzell's.

Highly recommend arriving early, or be prepared to wait!
