Miyo's Restaurant

We were only going to be in Hilo for one night, and my friends had recommended a handful of restaurants to try. Since my boys like Japanese food, I decided to make a reservation at Miyo's.  I knew Gem's experience with this restaurant was not the greatest (you can read about it here), but since her review was based on their take-out, I thought it would be interesting to see if we would have a similar or different experience dining in.

We arrived on time for our 5:30 pm reservation on a Friday evening. The restaurant was less than half full, but it quickly filled up after we got seated.

Soon after we placed our orders, the miso soup arrived, which was a life saver, because the boys were  really hungry.

One of my sons ordered the plain udon (we requested no green onions). It was a very generous serving of udon, which the boys enjoyed.

Check out the size of their beef curry rice. D could only eat half of it. It had a lot of flavor and ingredients, including a decent amount of cubed steak.

I ordered the bento box ($23) with fried tofu and chicken teriyaki. Each bento box comes with rice, miso soup, and shrimp & vegetable tempura.  I felt this was a very reasonable amount of food for the price! The tempura was nice and crispy. I didn't care for the chicken teriyaki. I wanted to try the sesame chicken but I felt that would be too much fried food on my plate.

The three of us really liked the food here and we would definitely consider returning the next time we're in Hilo!
