El Gallo Peruvian Food Truck in Kaka’ako

Thank you Miguel for hosting this meal!

Honestly, when the blog was invited to check out El Gallo, I volunteered, without having a clue as to what I was signing up for. There are not many places on Oahu that serve Peruvian food, but I was wiling to try something new and I'm so glad I did!

El Gallo is located on the right side of Cooke Street in Kakaako, just before Cooke intersects with Pohukaina Street. You can find the truck here Mondays through Fridays from 10 am - 3 pm.

The Anticucho is a must-try. It comes with two skewers of twice-marinated meat, grilled corn, grilled potato, and highly addictive vegetable fried rice. While it looks like this plate is shareable, since it comes with two skewers and two pieces of corn, trust me and order one plate person, because you won't want to share this after you take your first bite of fried rice or meat. Yes, it's that good!

This month El Gallo will have their empanadas on the menu. These were still warm after a 20 minute commute back to my office. These snack-size savory treats can be enjoyed with your Anticucho plate, or you can save them for a mid-afternoon snack.

For dessert, try the butternut squash donuts, fried in coconut oil, with a house-made fig syrup. It's a 'healthier' alternative to yeast donuts fried in regular oil. For best results, eat these while they're hot!

Check out some of their other menu offerings:
