Visit Austin: Interimaginary Departures

While walking to our gate in Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, one of my kids noticed a "Gate Infinity" by gates 12 and 14.

At first, we thought it was a replacement for Gate 13, thinking maybe the airport decided to remove the gate for superstitious reasons, but after seeing that Gate 13 was actually located downstairs, I googled "Gate Infinity" and discovered the art installation Interimaginary Departures.

It's a neat, interactive exhibit, where you can answer interesting questions to get a "ticket" to board an Interimaginary flight to one of several cities, such as Sim City, Candy Land, Cloudcuckooland, and so many more!

A mysterious departure gate beckons onlookers (a plaque is posted saying it is not an exit).

There are even recorded announcements over the intercom for flights!

Seats disappeared into the wall, making for another fun element of the exhibit.

If you have time before your flight, check out the Interimaginary Departures exhibit!
