FOODIES MAY GET STUCK ON BIG ISLAND CANDIES’ NEW PEANUT BUTTER MANJU

Big Island Candies will be adding peanut butter as a filling flavor to its popular line of baked manju.  The new treat will be released in both retail stores as well as online starting Wednesday, August 19.

The Hilo-based confectionary previously created two variations on the Japanese sweet—swapping out the traditional bean paste with chocolate and pineapple—and found widespread popularity among locals in Hawaii.  This spurred the addition of the newest flavor featuring rich, creamy peanut butter encrusted in a crispy cookie shell.  The 6 oz. box will contain eight individually wrapped pieces.

“People just love our manju,” says Sherrie Holi, President and Chief Operating Officer.  “We released three frozen, bake-at-home flavors during the pandemic, which were met with overwhelming demand, and decided to add a third already-baked version for those who prefer immediate gratification.”

Big Island Candies owns and operates two retail outlets in Hawaii.  The Hilo flagship store and factory is located at 585 Hinano Street, while the Ala Moana store is on the street level of Ala Moana Center, 1450 Ala Moana Blvd., near the Center Court.  For store hours, please call the Hilo flagship store and factory at (808) 935-8890or the Ala Moana store at (808) 946-9213.  For more information or to order online, visit the website at www.bigislandcandies.com.
