Visit Hilo: New Star Bakery

I was told about this very inconspicuous bakery in Hilo, New Star Bakery, that specializes in Filipino goods.  From pastries and produce to imported food items, this little hole-in-the-wall shop offers all kinds of goodies.

The morning I went, there was not much in the display case, and I wasn't sure what to order.  Thankfulluy, another customer was inside the shop, and I just ordered what she ordered, which was Spanish Rolls.

I luckily made it just in time for a fresh, hot batch of Spanish Rolls.

They were huge compared to the ones popular in Hawaii, and they were so soft and buttery.  I thought I would only eat half of one at a time, but I would easily end up eating an entire Spanish Roll!

They are really delish.

I was told they sell out of just about everything early, but if you're lucky like I am, you may stumble upon a new batch of pastries fresh out of the oven.
