Kapiolani Spaghetti House

I normally don't rush to new restaurants during opening week, as I like to allow an establishment a to iron out the kinks.  But my friend had messaged me the link to Frolic's article on Kapiolani Spaghetti House, and by chance neither of us had lunch plans that day, so made plans to meet here for lunch, on its second day of business!

At 12:30 pm, a good amount of tables were filled with customers. I even spotted a well-known local celebrity Chef dining there!

The menu consists of Japanese style pastas and Doria entrees.  After we made our selections, our server informed us that the all-you-can-eat salad bar is complimentary because of their grand opening.

We happily made our way there and assembled our bowls of salad and toppings.

There were four dressings to choose from ...

I really liked the two on the top - black sesame (top right) and ginger ponzu (top left).

Soup was also included as part of the salad bar - today's soup was bacon and cabbage.

It took a while for our entrees to come out of the kitchen - which was not surprising being that it was their second day of business.  I am wondering if that is why they decided to offer the salad bar for free, which a brilliant idea IMHO.

After a cup of soup and two bowls of salad, our entrees arrived!

I ordered the garlic shrimp - it was a nice serving of shrimp and al dente pasta tossed in a light garlic butter sauce. What caught me by surprise was the spiciness due to the sliced chili peppers - there was no indication on the menu that this was a spicy dish.  Take this as a warning, in case you're not into spicy foods...

My friend ordered the Indian Curry, which was one of their house specials. It was served with a raw egg on top, which is apparently a thing in Japanese cuisine.

Both of us were so full from our two bowls of salad that we had to box up half of our pastas to-go. And unfortunately, we did not have room for dessert!   I'll be sure to save room on my next visit!
